Default 3.73 or 4.10

i broke the rear end about a month ago and had it replaced with the same 10 bolt rear and now its giving me problems already. i brought it back to the mechanic and he said he would check it out this week. SO i was thinking about swapping out some gears if he has to pull it all apart..... what kind of quarter mile time can i expect out of a 3.73 or 4.10 from a stock M6 01 SS? also what will the car top out at with different gears? what can i expect to pay for something like this and how will this effect my speedometer? thanks in advance

Well I just installed a spare 10 bolt with 4.10's today. I have not had the speedo recalibrated in the ECM for the gears but 3rd and 4th gear feel totally different when you get on it, I just don't know what speeds I am shifting at. My setup on 3.42's I was shifting out of 3rd at 110mph at 6500. I should be pretty deep into 4th gear now at 110mph.

A 10 bolt is a time bomb anyhow which is why I still have my stock Zexel in the shed. That being said 4.10's get a huge thumbs up on an M6 car. How long they last in your car depends on driving habits and gear setup but its still a crapshoot.....

If your gonna spend the money to change the gears, go 4.10s. You'll be able to hit around 115 in 4th gear, which is perfect for a strong running bolt-on car in the 1/4. If you add a cam and raise your rev limiter, 4.10s will work well with more power as well. Don't even consider the 3.73s.

Oh, performance gains...

I was running 12.50s with the 3.42s and bolt-ons with Nitto DRs. I installed 4.10s and started running 12.30s. Getting off the line is what the gears helped with the most. I did trap my highest with the 4.10s however at 113.xx vs a best of 112s with the 3.42s.

What is this telling you? It tells me your waisting $$$ on the 10 bolts, putting 4.11s in a bolt behind an M6 is a ticking time bomb & a total waiste, you here the nightmare stories over & over, build something solid for the mods & hard launches for BEST gains, you'll never be able to really hammer hard on that 10 bolt with stickies to see any real results with an M6 without granaiding it, start piecing together a 9" & be done, your going to wish you did after spending all that money. I have 4.11s in my 9", you will like them, but don't expect big gains, it will feel different, if you cam it then you will really feel the power over the stock 3.42s & stock cam, so go with the 4.11s, but don't waiste it on the 10 bolt, thats just mt 2 cents.
