Default drive shaft recommendations

What drive shaft are most high power M6 w/ 9in running? Will aluminum hold with 800 hp 6k clutch drop and a locker? or do I need steel/cromoly? 3.0 or 3.5? weight difference between the different option? Maybe one that I would want to stay away from? Car has a 402 capable of making 800rwhp, I need something that will hold. Thanks

I will be installing my Strange 3" Chromoly DS with my 9", many aluminum ones have been used but IMO I feel better with chromoly.

I got my Strange DS from Midwest Chassis but I know EPP has good deals on both Chromoly and Aluminum. It wont be long before Bob from EPP comes in...lol.

its a moser 9in. The reason I ask about diameter is that I have a drive shaft safety loop on my torque arm crossmember and Im worrind about interference. My buddy has a PST 3.5 driveshaft and the same safety loop and the weights hit the bottom of the loop, even with the suspension loaded.

I have a chromemoly 3" driveshaft on order from Strange. I got it with the chromemoly ends and CM slip yoke, w/ 1350 solid spicer u-joints. I haven't received it yet so I can't attest to its quality but I know that everything complete with the u-bolt kit was $460. I know its gonna be a heavy bastard though.....

I would have gone PST from Bob for an easy bolt in ready application but my exhaust is REALLY close to my drive shaft and I don't think the 3.5" will clear on mine. My stock aluminum driveshaft had a few light "spots" on it where it contacted the exhaust pipe.

what is the weight difference between a strange 3" chromoly and bobs 3.5" aluminum? I paid 275 for my chromoly shaft and that was shipped. Bobs is around 425.

Mine cleared fine on my Midwest crossmember/loop. What crossmember/Loop combo are you using?? I would assume that the Aluminum might be a touch lighter than the Chromoly shaft.

I'm running the same drive shaft with my M9, but it's not 315 shipped, it's 400 shipped if you bought your rear from Bob, and 410+shipping if you didnt get your rear from him.

The thing has a lifetime warranty, can't go wrong with that!

I bought my PST last year through Bob, my rearend was built by Midwest Chassis using a Strange center section...NOT Moser so it is too short for my car. The reason it is $315 shipped is so I can get the proper length DS, and it has 13 miles on it.

You can run the whole range of driveshafts from aluminum all the way to carbon fiber. I run a 3.75" carbon fiber piece that weighs the same as the 3" stock aluminum shaft with smaller u-joints, but it is WAY overkill for my application. It clears my BMR driveshaft loop just fine, but then again, it has no external weights for balance.

Whatever you get, I'd highly recommend PST...their customer service is awesome. I had a problem with mine leaking out the slip yoke, and they took it back and fixed it within one week, and that's including shipping to and from FL to me in OH.

my set up is a Moser 9 and a Spohn TA with safety loop on the crossmember. My buddy has a Moser 9 and a UMI TA with safety loop and his pst driveshaft hits the loop on the bottom, even with a jack under the rear loading the suspension. Im gonna try and adjust the pinion angle to see if it helps.

When adjusting a TA, do you just loosen the jam nuts and move the adjuster or is there other bolts that need to be loosened to have proper movement?

We always recommend a 3" Chrome Moly drive shaft when running a drive shaft loop.

Hope that helps!

I have been running the Strange chromoly unit for years; reasonable price and extremely strong.

I went with a 3" Spicer tube shaft from Scott @ DLS a couple years ago. Told me that would be good for almost 1000rwhp IIRC. I was only planning on 650-700rwhp. Never ended up putting that kind of power through it, but the shaft and welds looked very nice for the $315 I paid for it at the time

Depends on which yoke yours came with...I would guess it is a 1350, but if you want to be sure you'll need to take some measurements.

1350 is the u-joint of choice with an aftermarket rearend....at least for the majority of people.

We have several different options. The 3" dom steel will support 1200hp the 3.5 aluminum will hold 800hp.

3" x .083" DOM steel
$299.95
3.5" x .083" DOM steel
$329.95
3.5" Aluminum
$429.95
3.25" Carbon Fiber
$599.95
3.75" Carbon Fiber
$849.95

I totally agree. We use and sell the pST 3.5" alum driveshaft that is rated at 1000 hp and comes with a lifetime warranty. It is the driveshaft that is in my Camaro which you can see in this video.
