Default CV vs hub assembly

I know this seems silly but i'll explain later...

So my 5th gen sounds like it has an all terrain tire on the right rear. (To me) Gets louder with speed. Even picks up a slight vibration with enough speed.

Seems to me like a hub assembly.

When I slalom the car on an empty highway the sound gets the loudest when I throw it on the right rear and almost goes away when I throw it back on the left.

To this redneck that is a wheel bearing all day long and twice on Sunday but I had a FWD car once that I threw a hub assembly in and nothing was fixed until I replaced the CV axle. And I never understood that. It didn't even have the usual 'clicking when turning' that a worn CV joint gives.

Have you ever had this symptom and it end up being the axle or carrier bearing or something else other than the bearing in the hub?

Thanks
