Default Obese Camaros

Can we all ban together and force Chevy to put these cars on a diet. Horsepower is meaningless when you weigh as much as some suv's. These cars should weigh no more than 3400 pounds period. WTF!!! I wanted to buy one, but there's nothing sporty about a 3900 lb+ car lumbering around corners.

Chevy didn't just one day decide to make the 2010 Camaros heavy. Its the product of the platform (same at the sedan g8) and ever-increasing safety regulations. Every car in the Camaros class is heavy, if anything the Camaro shoul be applauded for being lighter than the Challenger. Before you say the Mustang GT is lighter, i've heard it is suposed to get a substantial weight increase very soon so i'm not counting it right now.

Bottom line is that cars are getting heavier and there isn't too much you can do about it. If you want something fast, light, and cheap go buy a Corvette.

I dont have a problem with the weight. More power is the fix for that, I'm not lacking in that department either. Where can you get a Ls3 with headers, exhaust, tune and a cai to make 427 rwhp? In a vette or camaro.

Bull ****. My 4th Gen Z28 w/ t-tops weighs 3480 lbs. w/o spare tire and jack and less than 1/4 tank.

Do you have any idea of the safety regulations that have been heaped upon the auto industry in the last 16 years?

Be thankful you got a new Camaro...enjoy it while it lasts. Dont think it will survive 2 or 3 years more.

Are there any concrete weight figures out there? Im curious what a loaded 2SS/RS vs a bare bones 1SS weighs...

Anyone who freaks out about the weight clearly does NOT realize just how much more safety regs the 2010 has to adhere to than the last 02s to roll off the line..

I agree lighter would be nice, but at what expense? They obviously cant drop any safety features, and to get lighter in other areas would probably come with a materials cost and bottom line that most people would be saying "yea its lighter...but too damn expensive"... Its tough to have your cake and eat it too!

Aside from all that. Come on, how do we get our 4th gens lighter? Remove stuff. Do the same to the new piggy and it'll thin out quick, i bet.

I'd like to know what the weight is on the all white race cars. How much lighter are they, and what all are they lacking.

The Lightest Muscle Car of them all is the Mustang....and it weighs 3580lbs....thats not to light. Still..at a weight of 3880lbs and running 12.87s bone stock.....what the hell are you complaining about ?

If it were 300 lbs lighter it would be running with the C6 Vette.....cant have that. All this weight talk and you act like its running 14 second 1/4 mile times. Its a 12 second car that leaves every other muscle car staring at its ugly ***.....now theres a complaint, what the hell is with the Camaros *** ?

It's not jus' straight-line performance people are concerned with. People want a light and nimble car for handling purposes also. If it's at 3800 lbs but has a 1/4 avg. of high twelves: great! But I would also like a car that can handle well around curves and such and the more weight you are carrying, the more weight that's being thrown into curves and what not.

Go drive the freaking car before complaining about its weight. It does not feel heavy at all. In fact, it feels much lighter than any fourth-gen.

Handling?
http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...car/index.html

Faster than the nismo 370z around leguna seca and only a little over a second off the pace of the gt500. You will also notice in this test that the Camaro ranked very high in terms of ride quality meaning their is a lot of room for improvement with more track oriented suspension components (coil-overs etc) for those willing to make the sacrifice.

Again, it would be wise to actually drive the car before making any claims about its performance but this review sums things up nicely. I do not own a new Camaro or have any plans to, but I have had the privilege of driving one, and can attest to the accuracy of this review.

I've driven two v6 2010 camaros. I think they are too heavy. I know that this is mostly due to the new safety guidelines to which automakers are being subjected. With that being said, I think you could get some decent weight reduction by changing brakes, wheels and tires. This would also reduce rolling inertia. I'm sure there are other things that could be done easily to get the weight down a bit. The extra power and modability of the LS3/L99 can really make up for the weight.

I'm personally waiting for something with more power or to see how well the car holds up to forced induction type modding, since a 400 or so rwhp car that weighs 4000lbs with me in it is way too slow to drive every day.

Not sure what you are getting at. The v6 is obviously not the choice for pure performance.

I think it was quite obvious. The v6 is the lighter of the two cars and it is still too heavy. I drove a new malibu LT v6 that had more ***** than that car. It's all due to weight. Now all you have to do is add power to get the balance back. That's what I'm waiting for...
