Rodent accident I was traveling i-10 west in route to houston last nite when apparently an animal decided to become roadkill. my question o you all, should i replace the bumper myself, or make a claim.

This kind of stuff happens all the time. It depends on who your insurance company is and if they are going to jack your rates or not. You need to call your agent and figure it out. I would be inclined to make a claim and get it fixed, that's why you have insurance. If they jack your rates then start shopping for another company.
They shouldn't because this was not something caused by you, unless you engaged in a little bit of Death Race 2000. If you decide to do this on your own dime, you need to shop around because some shops will work a deal if it an insurance company is not involved.
If you are going to do this your self, I would still get it evaluated by a shop so you know what parts you need to buy because it looks like more than just the front facia and fender. There is stuff behind all that, that you may have jacked up.

my wife sells insurance, this would be a comp claim which isn't supposed to be held against you, comp covers everything from animals jumping in the road, trees falling on your car, acts of god/nature, theft, vandalism...

I hit a deer in a prefious car a few (5 or 6) years ago, and at least in my state (MA), an animal is conisdered "an act of god" and it had no affect on my insurance rate, my premium didn't change, it isn't on my driving record, and it was covered by my comprehensive insurance, not my collission insurance.

man i feel you same exact this happend to me, i just bought my first 2001 camaro ss f body with 59k miles on it, I Flew down to houston texas from here in virgina and drove it home. The owner and his dad was really cool and good people. So long story short i get on the road and make it all the way back to dc and get about 20 min from my house only to have a deer run into three lanes of traffic. I only had the car for 24hrs 
. Anyway the deer caused 3600 dollars in damage, my insurance company USAA covered everything, only had to pay the 500 dollar deductable. And i got a rental for free for two weeks
