Thanks for all the input and if anyone has something new to add that we've missed please throw in your two cents.
Have you looked at a CTS? You can get a new one with all wheel drive, DI 300hp V6 and a 6 speed manual for the same price as the base Audi A5.

I couldn't get the build thing on the website to deselect automatic trans so that's why I've never had that as an option.

The audi is nice, but considering this is america, I would go for the camaro. See it in person, craftmanship is top notch compared to the previous models. GM has put alot of money and effort to give us back what we thought we would never see again. Considering 4 piston brembo brakes, LS3, Independent rear, it is a great car. Plus I have a friend that drives an Audi and when we talk about cars he turns in to a douche (kind of biased). Funny thing is that my family tree comes from Germany.

You get the Audi get ready to buy 30 dollar oil filters and so on. Pretty much everything has to be ordered from over seas. Plus you can't just go to wally world/autozone to get wiper blades and other misc. parts. My G/f has an 08 Jetta and she is out of a car for 2 weeks minumum, just because of an ignition problem. Not to mention her 60 dollar wiper blades.

You want all wheel drive, just get a truck. IMHO

In NY I'd stick with the awd, grab a CTS, or a Saab 9-3 with the 2.8 turbo. Most people forget about Saab being under the GM curtain, but it adds a European touch, and the sport is about the same price as the A5 and still gives you the AWD and similar performance (0-60 in 6.0 flat for mags). I built all three on the individual websites and without options all three go for between 39-42. Just my .02.

Maybe it is my severe loathing for the 4L60(E) transmissions that has made me go so far away from automatics. Has anyone driven the new ford or chevy cars with the 6 speed autos? I've driven the 5 speed autos and they're not of any worth to me either but still not the same as these new sixes so any input on whether or not it is really that much of a sacrifice driving the autos anymore would be a real factor in choosing a car. With auto as an option it opens the door to a lot of other cars I've been ignoring.

If it makes you feel better the new trans in te Ford's and GM's are also used in BMW's. It was a joint venture between the three makers, so if it's good enough for a 5 series......

Add 1 more opinion on the AWD CTS, especially with direct injection!

That is probably my next car as the better half and I deal with 6 month winters

But does that mean it finally keeps the motor in the power band instead of making you guess and pray as to when it will shift?

Also, think I'd go with the Taurus over the CTS if I narrowed it down to the two, not quite as refined but it has an extra 61hp and 77ft-lb and costs 5k less with the same options (plus tax free and military savings since I can get fords through AAFES).

I would be interested in your response after driving both a Taurus and a CTS!

Depends on how good the engineers are on each application, this tranny will be geared differently of course between the Taurus/Camaro/3 series, but you'll only know for sure after a test drive.

I will have to go off the word of everyone else online, that is of course if I think the Ford is still an option at that point. In order to get the military discount and tax free I have to order it while I'm still deployed.

I had been following your buildup of you're caprice some time ago and could never find any updates, looks good, didnt know you were planning an all out race car though. The frame swap and suspension are impressive !!! my 468 powered 79 caprice aerocoupe is getting a complete 95 impala suspension swap and rear end. Anyway, buy the Audi its much sexier, awd, and everybody'll have a Camaro.

As soon as I get another day off around here I will get the updated pictures up and I'll see if I can post a vid to youtube of it running. The original plan for the car was to turn it into a show car but then it flooded and now I really just want it fun to drive.

Yeah you do, my buddy got the first new Mustang (07?) that was blue with white stripes while in Iraq. Great discount while your over there. I'm going to go test drive some cars with a friend in the next two weeks, want me to try out the 9-3 and the CTS if I see them? (it is Lexington after all, we rarely get the good stuff)
