B-pillars eh?

I don't think there is a single 2 door coupe on the market without them . . .
Do wish they weren't there, but oh well.
Say thanks to the Federal Government, NTSA, Insurance Co's and Lawyers for that one . . . .

A '68 Camaro, notice that it has only a definite A- and C-Pillar. There is a chrome guide rail in between the quarter and door windows, but it has no structural capacity. If you put all the windows down in this car(you can even put the rear passenger quarter windows down on the old Chevies!
) the roof of the car would be supported by only four points, the A- and C-Pillars respectively.
Now, for a car with B-Pillars, we'll turn to everyones favorite nemesis, the '05 Mustang. You can see that, in this design, there is a large structural pillar between the door window and the quarter window. This design lends strength to the structure, but is seen to be undesirable in many peoples' eyes. Also, most cars with a B-pillar like the Mustang CAN NOT roll down the back windows. They are solid pieces of glass like the windshield. .

Many Camaro guys are afraid that, with a B-pillar in place, that the '09 will look too much like a Mustang. Personally, I don't think this is too big of a concern, seeing as the Camaro will be a Coupe' and not a fastback, but there are still concerns over the presence of a B-pillar in the iconic beltline of a '69 re-do. Only time will tell.
