Default keyless entry security concern

as i'm walking away from my car today i hit the keyless remote to lock
the car, it locks no problem,i hit it one more time and i hear the
horn beep.

so i think cool, car honks to let me know the doors are locked. so i
try it again and again same thing.

but something grabs my attention, the beep is not coming from where my
horns are. they're on the opposite side of the car, so i try it again
a few times, and same thing.

so i look to see wtf is going on, and guess what...

a mid 90's white ford escort wagon that's parked 3 cars away from me
is the source of the beep... seems my keyless remote is opening and
closing that car's doors too, identical codes?!!! i went up to the
Escort just to make sure and sure enough my remote is locking and
unlocking it.

now i'm really concerned, this means that the owner of that car is
able to unlock my doors too, how can i address this issue?

HA! I had the same problem with my fathers truck once with an old Prestige alarm. When he tried to engage/disengage while another person it would not work, and once while in a parking lot it unlocked another vehicle.

Almost the same as ignition/door locks working with other vehicles, or garage door openers. There is a frequency used for alarms and garages. Sometimes you may have the same. I am sure someone can break it down further for me.

Wait for the owner of that car to come out and see what they do when (if)they realize they can unlock your car.
Then change your code.

You're lucky, I always push the lock on mine, I guess I should start locking it with the remote.
