Default Help with decision.....

I planned on doing both at the same time but finaances won't allow me to do so. Which would yeield the greatest gains....An ls6 or lq4 goodwrench ctare engine with my current mods plus longtubes or a new tranny and converter combo from on of our sponsors?

My current engine has 138,000 miles on and has been babied. I am the second owner, i have all service records and has kept regular maintenance with mobile 1 or RP fluids and seafoamed with zero smoke after doing so.

The tranny install would leave me with money to possibly do a 243 head sawp and ls6 intake. The crate engine plus labor would exhaust my funds. I also have the optionof ordering a turn key engine from a tahoe or 04 GTO for about 3500 this includes intake, pcm, harness, everything to do a direct swap with mileages ranging from 13k to 65k.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, please include recommended parts.

Well do you plan on keeping it stockish or are you looking to go bigger later? Instead of the crate motor, you could go with a forged shortblock which I think is just about the same price. That way you know for sure the bottomend is brand spanking new without question that will last a good long while. $3500 for a turn key motor sounds a little cheap if you ask me, and have no idea where it's been. I am always suspicious of stuff like that...

But if you go with either of those motors, I would go LS6(04 GTO). Lighter and better cooling jackets.

No problem fella. You could just go with the budget 347 from someone like TSP, SDPC, or another sponsor for a little over $3000, get ARP 2000 rod bolts for insurance on the bottom end would be a good idea also. If that is the route then it would also be a good idea to do LS7 lifters(get new lifter trays also!!!), LS2 timing chain, better oil pump(ported) while doing that just so you know that stuff is brand new also for piece of mind. That is just me though.

Do this. Then you'll have the peace of mind knowing you can throw whatever ou want at it and won't have to worry about the bottom end being weak.
