Your 98-02 Firebird MPG?

What do you get, city / highway.. And, do you have the v6 or v8? RAM-AIR?? Manual or Auto?

I am trying to decide which 'bird to save up for.
Thanks!

Save up for a m6 t/a. Ram air isn't gonna do too much for mpg (or anything else for that matter), and will cost you alot more. Typical bolt on cars get around 30 on highway and 23ish in the city I believe.

LS1W66 11-18-2009 04:07 PM

Best I've ever gotten in the city was 22 and that was keeping shifts at approx 2K rpm and using 5th gear all the time. Highway 6th gear and set the cruise at 70 and you'll be 30+. Car in Sig.

My a4 gets abt 27-28 before the headers doing abt 75 on the hwy. Hopefullly I'll be able to squeeze 30 after a tune with the lt's

jbrown5_1987 11-18-2009 04:27 PM

Could you gents explain what the M6 and A4 are?

Thanks.

BrandonWS6 11-18-2009 05:05 PM

M6= manual 6 speed
A4= automatic 4 speed

Trans Am Jam 11-18-2009 05:09 PM

M6 = bmw's v10 beast
A4 = Audi's turbocharged direct injection ricer's dream machine

cambirdracing 11-18-2009 05:10 PM

My 94 3.4 v-6 a4 gets 27 hwy 20 in town. And it has 252,000 miles on it.

Wifes 98 Z LS1 A4 gets about the same on the hwy. It's totally stock, unmodded.

jbrown5_1987 11-18-2009 05:13 PM

Thanks, Brandon.. Yes, I intended to get a manual. ;)

SOMbitch 11-18-2009 06:23 PM

All being equal M6 costs more upfront so there goes your gas money... Also if you start to mod the A4 will be faster and more consistent than a M6 car. Oh...and if you hang around this site much you WILL mod:D Also bone stock M6 cars routinely break 10 bolt rearends so there is a lot to consider....

Bone stock I got about 25/20. Now H/C/I + boltons I get 23/don't wanna know because of the stall:D

99 Trans am V8 M6 with 4:10 gears, intake and exhaust.
I got 26mpg+ doing around 80mph plus a couple WOT runs and stop and go traffic. I need a tune and cruise control, then I am sure 28-30 is reachable. I get about 18 city if I don't get on it too much. My car smokes and smells a little so there is alot of room for improvement, plus I suck at shifting.

My 95 V6 A4 camaro got about 12-14 city and like 21 or something highway. So yeah.........

The 80 T/A got about 6mpg city.

i got 32 going 75 on a 100 mile trip. bolt on car with 2.73 gears longtubes ory catback and tune

Xtreme57 11-18-2009 10:12 PM

how exactly are some of you calculating these measurements

jbrown5_1987 11-19-2009 12:56 PM

*bump*

Any more? :D

BlackonBlackTA 11-19-2009 01:07 PM

Also need to take gears into consideration. With a manual you'll only have one stock choice. The A4 guys had two. I have 2.73's and always get 22 mixed with my best at 30-31 mpg 98% highway.

Also there are 900000 mpg threads on the site. Hate to beat the dead horse...

fill the tank up until you can absolutely fill it no more....then drive normal, until you need a fill up.... completely fill it until it cannot be filled anymore "only way to be consistent"

Record the number of miles you drove, drive it by the number of gallons it took to fill up the second time.....there you have it MPG...

I get about 21 city w/ a 2002 SS a4 and forget about the 2010 SS i don't even what to tell you what that get's for MPG.

69camaross 11-19-2009 02:18 PM

Here's a much more relevant question..... Why are you asking about MPG when you're looking at performance cars? If you want MPG go buy an Accord or VW. If you want performance buy a Camaro or Corvette. It's that simple, these cars go fast, the other boring cars I mentioned are to get you from point A to B sipping fuel.

If you're asking this to help you determine if you can afford one or not my advice would be if your budget is that tight, you might want to save for a little longer.

I can't believe on a performance car website people talk about MPG, :eek2: What's next a comparison between how many cup holders a Camaro has vs. another car? :D
