Hey my buddy just blew the engine in his 1997 chev silverado and is looking to replace it. He said he got a guy to quote him 3600 bucks CDN to rebuild his engine and stroke it to a 383. I see a lot of guys here swapping lq4's and lq9's into there f-bods when they blow and I was wondering how difficult it would be to put into his truck. And what would be the cost? any info is appreciated.

It'd about the same as swapping an LS based engine into any non-LS car/truck. The 97 truck is a Vortec "LT1 style" engine. You be better off buying a brand new GM Vortec truck crate motor from GM.
Here's a brand new one for $2000.

ANy of the others from GMPP that have Vortec heads will also work like the ZZ4, ZZ383, 350 HO, Fast Burn, etc.

I"m sure that guy can build it on the cheap but remember you always get what you pay for.
