Found a good deal on a black ss while searching for a c5 .
budget is not enough for a '01+ c5 m6 , found 98,99 that are autos, since i'm trying to change to a corvette .
now just hesitating between three choices !!!
1- get the SS.
2- get old year c5(mostly auto).
3- wait untill have a good budget to get a later year c5 .
what would be your choice ?

Depends on how quickly you want something. Ideally you would budget to get a later year c5, but I personally love my Z28. To be honest I would just go ahead and get the SS or even look a little while longer for a decent miles Z28 (01-02 if you don't want to change alot of things over) that would be cheaper and the best bang for the $$.

Had a 98 C5 M6 and traded it in for a 02 SS a4 which was a lot better and it all depends what u want to do w/ the car and u have to remember everything for the Vette is twice as much or more. Now if it was for a C6 that is a different story.

I've owned both, a 99 SS and a 99 C5 with tons of mods. The SS I miss the most because it was better taken care of by previous owners and gave me less headaches. I felt more connected to the SS because the clutch feel was better and the shifter is right on the transmission versus all the way in the back. I also think a cable throttle body gives a more direct feel than electronic ones.
The C5 usually has better build quality and the cornering abilities are night and day.
Also, anything that is Corvette specific is expensive: tires, transmission work, suspension, etc. Clutches aren't the strong point of either car, it cost me 2k to a clutch on the Corvette because I didn't have a shop lift. If it was an F-body, I could tackle a clutch with a friend...

It depends what you like... I have a z28 and its bad ***, I love corvettes... but like how many of these guys mentioned.....parts is what gets you. Doing a simple cam swap is a little of a challenge cause the rack and pinion has to be remove also being an auto or manuel trans its in the rear of the car on the vette. I pulled the trannys from a c5 vette on the floor, but they are bad *** cars. but it depends what you like i'm just putting those things out there.

Nothing wrong with the older year LS1 cars (C5 or F-body). Power difference is marginal, and the differences aren't a big deal IMO.
Overall, I'd always pick any V8 F-body over a C5. I'm just not a fan of C5s. I'd say, stick with the F-body until you can afford the jump to a C6.

thanks for your input guys ...
my previous cars :
'91 ws6
'99 z28 m6
'94 c4
I had the camaro for 6 years , I just sold it this year , and that's why I'm trying to change to a C5 .
by making my choice , I won't spend more money over tuning the car .. I'll be satisfied with only boltons . you know , after getting married for a while , you just make plans and it's not wise to spend everything just to drive a shiny car . IMO
future won't help in investing the money to get a better car like a c6 unfortunately , except if I won a prize by a miracle . lol
so, I think i'll be waiting a little and search for a good condition c5 .

I dunno, C5s are a dime a dozen in my area, but you can go weeks before you see an LS1 F-body on the street. Hell, even V6 F-bodies aren't all that common. Everyone drives a damn Mustang...

it is a matter of opinion. Most the parts you will be changing out on the vette are not any higher than a fbody. I have a c5 now but wanting to get back into a SS I have had camaros my whole life so the vette just doesnt do it for me. As for changing the clutch we have done it twice on my vette and twice on my buddys with no lift and it isnt that bad. We are actually getting pretty quick at it.

Since the engines are the same, that wont matter in regards to engine parts.
