Default Possible Faulty Oil Sending Unit

What are the symptoms of a faulty oil sending unit? I get intermittent "Low Oil Level" warnings.

If your oil sending unit is bad or going bad you won't read any oil pressure or the pressure will be erratic. If you're getting low oil signals and your oil level is good then its your oil level sensor. They're two different sensors. The sending unit is on the top of the motor on the driver's side behind the intake. The level sensor is on the passenger's side of the oil pan.

Thanks. I will keep an eye on the oil level. Right now it's holding steady at about 50 idling. Oh I have a cracked dipstick. The plastic piece near the neck of the stick is cracked, and the O-ring is kind of floating between the two pieces. Could this be causing my problems?
