Default Windshield Shade

What do you guys use to keep the sunlight and heat out of your car while its parked? Georgia summers are about to hit and I don't want my dash cracking. We have two at the house but they are both too big for the TA windshield.

Yeah I'm getting them tinted this week but I'm looking for a good shade and just seeing what others use.

i'd recommend putting film on the front and side windows. they make them clear enough that you can't really tell they're on there, but they make a massive difference.

i have solargard ultra performance 75 on the side windows and llumar air 80 on the front windshield. they're both ceramic films. you really cant there's any film on the windows unless you're in the car and notice you aren't burning up in the sun, or put on polarized sunglasses and see a rainbow effect on some dark surfaces outside of the car. if i put the window down part way, you can see the difference, but looks like the automotive glass was made that way.

it cuts down on the heat dramatically and is supposed to block 99.9 of UV. they're both also in a list of 12 products recommended by the skin cancer foundation http://www.skincancer.org/seal/display.php?c=19

^^ That sounds like a good idea but that won't really keep the sunlight out. I want a shade to block the sun from coming in the front glass so my dash doesn't crack and so the inside doesn't get hot when my car is parked in the parking lot at work

If I can get one of those universal shades here in Canada at a local supplier similar to Auto Zone, you should have a dozen different options by going down to your local supplier.

I think weathertech (the mat maker) has a custom sun shade for each car. Check summit, it can't be too expensive.

I just have 5% tint all around, 4" 20% strip at the top of the windshield and use those round pop out shade things from wal-mart, size large and i kept the small piece of cardboard in the package to stick in the bottom middle of the windshield to block the little exposed piece :-D. Deploys in 10 seconds and stores nicely behind the passenger seat net. **** Texas summers lol

i found a lot of claims that UV is what damages the dash and fades the interior. but as far as heat goes, the "clear" tint also helps with that:

Llumar Air 80
UV Protection: 99%
Visible Light Transmitted: 78%
Heat Rejection: 43%

Solargard Ultra Performance 75
UV Protection: 99%
Visible Light Transmitted: 76%
Heat Rejection: 40%

after leaving my car sitting in the sun, it is not as bad getting into it anymore - feels like more than 40%. but i hear you on the sun shade. they're a hell of a lot cheaper than getting tinted too.
