Thanks again for the additional figures. FWIW: I drive 250+ miles a week to/from work for my commute. 95% of that commute is highway driving, with minor ascents/descents. Most of the driving I do is highway. Any city driving or if it's between 60-85* and not raining I'll take the bike (44 MPG +)

All highway driving I'll average 300-400 a tank at around 70 depending how much city driving is mixed in. When I bought my SS in Arizona the drive back was long flat highways and got over 400. Right now I'm averaging between 250-300 doing 60% city 40% highway. I also have somewhat of a lead foot in the city..and a small exhaust leak from the damn egr tube..
theres some compact cars that advertise "400 miles a tank"

I can only get 25 mpg in my A4 3.23 on the highway (100% stock).
My friend has a '99 vert with 6 speed and he claims 29-30 mpg on his frequent highway trips to Florida (also 100% stock).

for an m6 30mpg isn't all that hard to expect, however there are many things that can drop that down one by one and is what i think is the case most often. combined probably 20-25.

When I calculated it after I filled up it came to about 28mpg. I was also learning how to drive a manual at the time so the little city driving I did, did hurt the mileage, I wonder what I coulda got.

X2, my truck will get 350-400 miles to the tank.
Depends on the transmission, I don't see an auto getting upper 20s every, but I'm always in the low to mid 20s with about a 50/50 mix, and mid to high 20s with more highway than city. I don't think 30 is out of the question if it's all highway, I've hit 28 with a mix (mostly highway of course).

Trust me, it's harder than you think. For a stock M6, it would be easier but still not easy to do (if we are talking averaging 30mpg for a while tank). You would have to do nothing but highway the whole time, with very limited spirited driving and pretty much go ~60 the whole time. Don't forget about tire pressure.

The point was it was impressive, I'm lucky to get ATLEAST 200 miles with the driving route to work and back.
would u rather drive a aveo that gets 400 a tank, or a sick *** z28 that gets 400 a tank? to me that is impressive.
I however, have a 15.5 gallon steel tank, and not the current 16.8 plastic tank so i won't get as much miles out of my tank as i would like

It costs 30-35 dollars to fill a compact. It's not that impressive, really.
I can put a 40 gallon tank in my Camaro can get 800 miles to a tank.
Filling it will cost me almost 200 dollars, though.

Driving an extra 200 miles per fillup is very convenient, especially since op does alot of rural driving. I will agree it sucks that u have to pay a lil more to fillup, but that is common knowledge.
28 mpg is impressive if someone is able to achieve that on a v8, alot of newer v8's vehicles need that silly MDS( or whatever its called) to touch similiar mileage.
It costs me $35-45 too fill up fyi, if i was on fumes then it would cost me $60, $67 if i had the 16.8 gallon tank. (edit: $4.00 for premium)
When i had my buick, i filled up 3 times a pay period, i now fill up 4 times a pay period since i got my SS with same driving routes and driving habits, not to shabby, i was expecting 5-6 fill ups but its nice knowing that

my car in the sig gets 30+ mpg on the highway. i Am not bullshitting nobody! take my word for it. any 2.73 gear 3.23 gear A4 4l60e gets great on the highway with all the bolt ons and everything. i dont even have cats and i get this. the sweet spot is 65-75 mph. any thing higher than 75 kills mpg i can go 85 90 mph and still get like 24 25mpg.

These cars can get 30 MPG, but you have to make a big attempt to get it. By that I mean shifting at 1200-1500 RPM's, and when on the highway doing 65-70 instead of 80, and I think that this is a big misconception that people have especially with these cars because people buy them because there fast not because they get great MPG's. Ive had several M6 cars and when I tried and shifted at 1500 and kept the highway speeds closer 65-70 I got really high 20's and hit 30 several times. But if you drive the car normal meaning not shifting at 1500 but not redlining every gear you can expect mid 20's with a mix. Compare that to a civic where you can drive it however you want and red line every gear and still get 30+

Seriously dude. Our cars are not THAT fuel efficient where you could sit there and compare it to a Honda Civic or something of the like. They do pretty good for what they are, but lets not get carried away here. There are a lot more variables involved in fuel consumption other than how far you can go on a tank of gas.

I do agree with you at the end of your post, im not disputing that.
Lemme put it in perspective,
The epa currently rates the fbody to do 19 combined, 23 hwy
My window sticker states 20 combined, 25 hwy (eh sticker is at work, ill check it tomorrow to verify my combined)
With the mods described in my sig I personally get 18-19 combined and 25.5 hwy with gas that contains 10% ethanol. Thats dead on to my sticker mpg, and higher than the epa ratings.
I counted 4 people on this thread alone that beat my combined and hwy millage, assuming all is true, and for someone to claim up to 400 is rather impressive IMO, let alone people peaking at 30mpg. I mean, come on.
Can you name any other v8 powered cars to hit the 30mpg plateau without any hybrid support or deactivating 4 cylinders?
Very few, if any.
