4th Gen LS1 MPG's?

When my M6 Z28 was stock I could get 32mpg on the highway traveling 80 with 3.42 gears. Now that I have an MS4 cam, headers, true duals, different heads and 4.11s I can still get 25 on the highway. That is honest no bullsh@t. Thats with the cruise set and let her go.

I think with a wideband, and some time with EFILive and a good tuner you could increase your cruise MPG with the lean burn software that EFILive has.

I do agree with you at the end of your post, im not disputing that.

Lemme put it in perspective,

The epa currently rates the fbody to do 19 combined, 23 hwy
My window sticker states 20 combined, 25 hwy (eh sticker is at work, ill check it tomorrow to verify my combined)

With the mods described in my sig I personally get 18-19 combined and 25.5 hwy with gas that contains 10% ethanol. Thats dead on to my sticker mpg, and higher than the epa ratings.

I counted 4 people on this thread alone that beat my combined and hwy millage, assuming all is true, and for someone to claim up to 400 is rather impressive IMO, let alone people peaking at 30mpg. I mean, come on.

Can you name any other v8 powered cars to hit the 30mpg plateau without any hybrid support or deactivating 4 cylinders?

Yeah, I agree, the gas mileage these cars can achieve is impressive I know that, and it's not uncommon for most cars to exceed their EPA rating by a few numbers from what I've seen. But, that 30mpg figure that people claim they are able to get is not the norm, for these cars, I'm telling you. You have to actually be really on a mission to get good gas mileage out of the car in order to get that number or above. Versus 30mpg out of a Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla or, even one of the newer 8 cylinder motors that come integrated with the cylinder shut-off setup, that figure is easily achievable with normal everyday driving habits that most people have. The LS1 cars get great gas mileage for what they are, but you just cannot compare them to the vehicles that are solely designed to be efficient in terms of gas mileage, that's a little ridiculous, that's all I'm saying.

Well I don't get 30 but I don't get 8 either. If I cruise at 70-80mph on the freeway I get almost 25mpg. In town without touching boost and keeping it solely in vacuum I get almost 19. Now with the previous numbers taken into account, I get 12-14 when I play with evo's and 600's in town and 17-20 on the highway in boost. 12-14 IS still better than what a big block chevy gets on the highway ANY day thus why the LS platform is such a great all around performer.

Last time I calculated my MPG's I averaged 15 mpg. Well, I averaged 32mpg on one of my trips a while back. It included like six small towns, 80mph average, with some stretches hitting triple digits. I was kinda shocked when I filled up and did the math. All the car has is exhaust, and cutout, with an LS6 intake, its an M6 with stock gears.

i get 17 mpg city. around 20 hwy. 3.73 gears, 2200 stall, forged 347, custom h/c. car is running very rich. hoping to get more mpg w/ a nice dyno tune. Do yall think my mpg will go up, along w/ my performance?

I have a big cam, built M6 9 inch with 3.90's boltons and 315 rears and my trip from MN to Kansas City I got 31.4mpg with the cruise set at 80 and a few"fun" runs to 130-140! Good mileage can be had even with some decent mods! When I bought the car without the cam I drove from Birmingham,AL to KC and only got 29.2 so it actually went up when I put the big cam in! i have a mostly stock 2001 camaro SS and on my first tank i got 18mpg-with going 120 a bunch of times XD

I drove 800 miles round trip to dallas, I remember I pay $150 on gas, gas price was 4.11 a gallon. fill up 3 time and still have half tank when I get home. not bad i think

Like everyone said, depends how you drive it. It probably isn't much different then your car now honestly though.. Mods in sig I get around 15-17mpg city and 23-25mpg highway. Depending on how I drive. If your basically a stock ls1 fbody, running good and tuned up fresh, a m6 should get high 20s on the highway and high teens around city driving normally.

With my 02 M6 SS I got 22 average. I'd get 28-30mpg highway on long distance trips.

22 local/ 27.7 hwy (@70mph) mpg in my stock 00 Firehawk m6. Roof off of course.

These are excellent figure for the fun factor you are getting

1 UK gallon = 1.2 US gallon, so you are easily getting 30 MPG UK which for a 400+ hp V8 is a bargain.

My 2.0 litre estate car will do 36 UK MPG at 60 mph, drops to about 33 at 70/75. Around town it's BAD especially in the winter - 20 UK MPG if I'm lucky. Our gas is nearly $9.50 a US gallon!!

Adding in lean cruise (not factory as it increases NOX emissions) would help a bit too, I'm asking my tuner if he can do that for me. Same with blocking off EGR, I did that on a Cosworth V6 and you could feel the difference at WOT.

Compare that to a civic where you can drive it however you want and red line every gear and still get 30+
so why would you want this? because its cool to drive wot and still move slower than the f-body at half throttle?

on my end, I've got 30mpg out of my t/a. I most often average 24-25 mpg, but mainly short highway trips.

Actually, yeah, it is. I love revving my DD really high and flying past cars.

Then again, mines German, not Japanese, so I don't know how well that translates.

02 WS6, A4, 3.73 gears. I have an SLP lid, magnaflow catbacks, brand new O2 sensors, fuel and air filter. I drive pretty spirited all the time and i get about 190 miles before i have to fill up which is just under 16MPG. Even taking it easy on the highway, i barely break 16MPG.

I bought a spare PCM to send off for a mail-in tune because i think someone messed with the tune. I think i should be getting a little better mileage, especially when taking it easy. Most i ever got out of a tank was 220 miles.

I did something along the lines. I bought a 74,000 mile 94 buick lesabre for a DD. rides awesome and I have yet to get less than 25 mpgs mixed driving. I would have bought a cheaper, high mileage version, but this one was so mint I could not pass it up for the price. I guess now I have to drive around at WOT to make it cool tho.
