Default Jackstands....

Im going to be pulling the K member, trans, and motor out of my T/A in the near future, and i was wanting to know if it was safe for the car to leave it up on jackstands with the k member removed for an extended period of time?

the car does have an 8 point cage, but i want to know if i leave the k member off, and the front of the car left on jackstands (they will be level) if over a 24 month period, if that would cause the car to "twist"? Thanks

I've never had my car on jack stands for 2 years (why 2 years, btw?), but I have had it on stands for about...3 months or a little more with the K-member removed and there were absolutely no problems. There isn't going to be a huge amount of torque on the chassis so I think you should be fine, unless someone else here has experience with a car being on jacks w/ out the K-member for extended periods of times.

Again though, why 24 months?

only reason i said 2 years is because im working with a limited budget, so i plan on taking the car apart, cleaning up the engine bay, rebuild motor, t56 swap, and a bunch of other stuff. So i figured 2 years would be the max, and was just wondering if it would be safe for that amount of time...

With the engine and transmission pulled, most of the weight in the front will be gone anyway. I don't see an issue.

How would you keep the suspension loaded with the k member out of the car?

Two years is a long time so it is hard to judge just what could happen. Does your car have sub frame connectors? If so those would be pretty decent place to put stands under. One of the key reasons I love my boxed SLP's is that very reason. If your car doesn't have them, buy a couple more stands just to have more points of contact under the car.

As for the rear, something like cinder blocks under the tires will allow you to keep the rear elevated pretty high and keep the suspension loaded while not concentrating a lot of weight on only 2 points on the axle housing. Just toss a square of plywood or something so your tire isn't resting right on the block for that long.
