$80 plus shipping
Mine only ever held 360-370 RWHP...but after 226K miles of abuse it still held just fine...$80 is a good deal if someone needs a driveshaft for a stock rearend.

I tried...I didn't make a ton of power...but I beat the snot out of the clutch pedal and never broke mine.

I remember reading on here once that the 2.73 cars with the lower speed limiter and 235 tires got the 2 piece drive shaft. I'll have to look it up when I get home, as I'm at work now.
No confusion here. A4 2.73 V8 cars with Z-rated 245/50 tires and a 16x MPH limiter got a one piece steel shaft, '98-'02 for sure. No question about that.

As for the two piece on a V8 with 235/55 tires, I have no idea one way or the other.

I've known a few people that used a stock steel shaft after breaking a stock aluminum one; it holds up much better and isn't going to break easily.

Yep. I've seen M6 cars rip them open like Coke cans, even at modest power levels. The steel ones don't do that.

Maybe some were just made out of spec? I didn't know of it being a common problem like the rear ends or something

...I was under the impression that the rear was the weak link. So my auto really has the chance to break a drive shaft?!? And don't get me wrong, there isn't a strip in my area but I have taken off hard more than a few times.

Kinda scared of getting that stall now lol.
Edit: well, not really...

With an A4, you don't have too much to worry about in regards to the driveshaft OR the rear. M6s can break these parts at stock power levels, but they can usually live behind autos for a very long time - even at H/C level or more.

No confusion on my end. My 2000 Z28 with base narrow tires, T56/3.42 and a PATHETIC stock speed limiter (that lasted 1 day after I bought the car before I tuned it out)...had a 1 piece steel driveshaft. I was under that car a billion times, and I took it apart and put it back together many times too.

2.73 car's had steel and 3.23 and 6 speed had aluminum.

my 98 Z28 w/ 2.73'd = steel
my 01 SS w/ 4.10's (swap gears) 3.42 6 speed = aluminum -

i now run a 3.75 rear (9") w/ a PST Aluminum DS anyways. stock sucks period.

I thought I seen a thread on here a while back about someone having a 2 piece drive shaft in an ls1 car. Maybe it was an ls1 swap. Anyways, carry on.

My old SS had about 420rwhp with aluminum shaft and never broke, probably because it would always spin like mad before hooking

I never knew that the V8 cars ever came with a steel driveshaft. Ya learn something new everyday, I guess.

Aluminum makes real good beer cans
I twisted the OE shaft @ both ends for one hell of a vibration with an A4 3:42 H\C

Z28's that came from the factory with 235/55-16 tires also came with a steel driveshaft, bought mine new and it had a steel shaft. They were tire dependent at least in 2001.

Another variation to throw into the mix. A TSB was issued back then for customers complaining of vibration. If the car had a steel driveshaft and after the dealer checked the balance of the tires/rims and no source for the vibration could be found, the standard aluminum shaft replaced the steel one. I used to have the number of the TSB,but it's been a while.
