Default need advice to keep or sell built 02 ss

I'm at a crossroad in my life I think. I need some honest options, something you would ask your father if you had one. Let me fill you in first, I have a real nice 02 ss camaro, not perfect but I've put almost 20k into the car as it sits today and could find another few thousand to spend getting it closer to my liking.

- my car as it sits but I've added SFC, torque arm relocation bracket, and adjustable trq arm. Car has 86k ish miles. engine, trans, rear have 5k ish miles since it was built by spartan performance, top notch work btw.

my wife slammed our family car into the *** end of a pickup and we are now using my car as a "family"(us and a baby) car until insurance settles our loss.

I either want to part it out or trade it for a family crew cab truck. I don't really want to hand over my car that so much work went into for someone else to enjoy. If it went to a good home I would feel better. It's ridiculous to have "feeling" for a car but I just do. I'm a car guy threw and threw. I just don't know what to do. I think it's time to let it go, but

should I part it out or sale/trade it?

You'll miss it too much and buy one later, so just save yourself the time and hassle of looking for one by not selling it, if you really need to just pick up a used beater minivan for the time being, sell it after your insurance gets things settled

I'm to the point I want to stop spending money on it. I installed a clutch pedal b/c I want to put in a level2 t56. I want a 12bolt or 9in rear. Some better bucket seats. I need a clutch to handle the motor. That's more then a few thousand. To me I think its best to stop where I'm at and get a truck. I've always had a truck my whole life till now.

Man, having been in a similar situation, I say keep the car. Getting rid of my 99 Formula was the worst thing I've ever done regret wise. While I enjoyed my Avalanche, and it certainly served its purpose, I always beat myself up for getting rid of that car. A month ago I bought an 01 SS M6 and said I'll never not have one again. I know it sucks using it for a family car at the moment, but consider it a short period of pain to keep from having a long period of suffering later. And if your finances can support it, still get a pickup sometime, but keep the f-body.

I guess I could use it for the time being and throw it in storage for a couple years till I'm ready for it again.

We were house shopping, couldn't buy. Moving to an apartment, no garage. Wife and newborn. Wife quit her job, wrecked the car. Odds have been against having a car like this and im just frustrated.

I think you really need to decide if your ok with not owning a "pleasure vehicle" for a very long time. With a wife, kid, and a possible future mortgage payment if you sell your car then the odds will really be against you being able to buy another performance car. Keeping the car doesn't cost that much as long as it's in good running condition you'll just have to work a little harder at saving up for any future mods.

I would buy the wife a cheap ride, keep the Camaro, and try to get a pick up and dd it... I recently bought me a "new" to me pick up a 02 GMC Sierra Duramax!! I did manage to keep my 85 GP which is getting closer to the ls1/t56 swap done but I did it all after I bought my house bout three years ago... Now I had my GP for over 14 years and a ex later, few apartments, countless beaters that I fixed just to drive to work, I am basically where I want to be.. for now. It would be hard to find such a nice ride like yours later IMO.. Another way I look at it is if it's paid off then it's money spent already.

This unfortunate story is told over and over again on every car forum on the planet. Wife, baby, financial issues, etc...
Guess what? None of these problems will go away by selling your SS. All that mod money will be gone and you will be getting very little for an 86k miles Camaro, certainly not enough to solve problems, or buy other cars or trucks.
Being a lot older than most that post here, I will tell you first hand that you will most likely not see another 'pleasure' car for yourself for the next 18 years, and maybe longer. There will never be money in the budget for a car of your own. I've seen it far too often. There is always an excuse. Why is it when divorces occur, the first thing a guy does, is to buy a sweet ride for himself. Mainly because it is the one pleasure that has always been denied. jsmith564, you have and own the car now, so never let it go unless you want to or are sick of it. I like your idea of 'storage'. After a few months you will be so happy to have the SS still. If not, then you really didn't miss it or need it. Then sell. Your wife should support you on this matter. If not, we all wish you the best!

Default Crossroads

You are at a real crossroads. If you keep the Camaro, plan to spend another $20k. $3k in a rear-end plus control arms. $1k in suspension. $5k in NOS or Turbo plus a new motor, a Tremec tranny, and it goes on.
The other bad news, it seems everyone is looking for a bargain and no one wants to give you half of your investment as you have already stated.
Man-up, if you like the Camaro, keep it. If not, take the best offer.
I am going to put more money into mine rather than give it away.

Thanks guys. It does help. I'd like to store it, out of sight out of mind. Another problem arises, no place for storage ATM. My short term solution is to use it till we replace it with a family truck. Then I'll decide to either store, part it or sale.

Most will say keep it because it's an enthusiast site, but I would never DD my family in an F-body...I have 2 kids and cramming them in multiple times daily for gymnastics, swimming, school etc would suck. Unless it's real short term and you have plans for the car as a weekend warrior I'd part it out and sell it for something that suits your needs.

Buy a $2k civic with the money you said you can put into the camaro and drive it and fix little things until it goes. You already seem like you don't want to get rid of your car and I dont blame you. IMO just cover it and find a place to park it and forget about it for a little that way you still have it down the line.
