Default LS3 Build

So, I have decided to build my own LS3 instead of buying a crate LS3. It's going to be a lot more expensive because I'll be buying performance parts off the bat... but at least I'll be buying it piece by piece by piece instead of "BAM $7000 right here right now maddafakka!" any one else feel that this is the way to go?

are there freeze plugs in an LS? I haven't found any on summit racing, but I did find the front and rear oil plugs.

What do you need freeze plugs for when you live in Vancouver, Canada's tropics.

Look up FBparts or email them, that's where I've been getting a lot of my GM parts from, and cheaper than most.

They've got a few block completion kits, to include the freeze plugs.

I got my plugs for TSP and i feel like they were much cheaper than $50 bucks...but if a performance motor is what you want, then yes, building it yourself the way you want it to be done is the way to go

I'd like to to see a link to where you saw that because the the closest think to that is a bare LS3 block for $1599.99. The cheapest LS3 short block I can find in TSP's site is $4274.99.

Its best to buy it complete. That way you are ready to install. Buying components will take time and I am sure you can save few bucks but it will cost you time....how fast do you want it in the car running?

Thumbs up Monte/Vett

I posted about a install with a LS3 & 4L65E Connect & Cruse package from GM in my MC SS AEROCPE. I used all new after market parts which was cheaper than useing old parts. The after market has everything needed but took a lot of research. HOLLEY has the best parts for a LS swap. (I forgot to mention with the new GM package theres a 50,000 mile warranty)

It just depends on what you want to do. if you want to build the LS3 with performance parts And pick them out I would say build it yourself. Unless you have the money to go buy a nasty crate motor from a company like Mast motorsports

Have someone build it all at once if you have the means to, otherwise buying a part here and a part there is the way to go for sure. It will save over the long run but will definitely take a little longer to get it up and running
