Fellas I had been lookin at treating myself to a 20 years of service gift. I was stuck between a C7, 6th Gen or mods for my c6. I looked at the pricing for the two vehicles and was bit in awe. Seems like the fbody has crossed the line of what ybody...neither are the poor mans muscle and sports car anymore. I'm being quoted $55k for the F and $63k to $80k for the Y! Has anyone else seen pricing this high or are dealers in my area full of $hit!

Prices of new cars are insane. But as long as people keep taking out those 84+ month loans to "afford" them, the manufacturers will keep jacking up the prices.
I looked at the 6th Gen a couple times, but I've never been able to wrap my head around the prices that they want. Hell, even $45K is too much for a Camaro.

6th gen and C7 are not my favorite cars to look at so, if it were me, I'd stick with the C6. C6 is a much better looking car, and the LS3 is an excellent performer with tons of potential.
Crazy to think about still owing money on the same car at the 7 year point. No thanks, I'll continue to abstain from automotive loans.

What still astounds me is that a friend saw a C7 Z06 in his local dealership and the salesman told him that they would finance up to 120 months for it. Absolutely insane.

I have a maximum I will pay for ANY car. Its 15 thous dollars, a car is the WORST thing you can spend money on PERIOD. My neighbor bought a new Camaro v6, was 40k! I see it every day and honestly I wouldn't have spent 15k on it!

First of all, thank you for the years of service you gave to our great country!
Since this is a well deserved gift you are treating yourself to, and financially you will be ok, then I don't see why you shouldn't go get what you really want.
Since you already have a C6, sell that and get a C7 Z06
Everything is expensive nowadays just like the $50,000 truck and $40,000 v6 Camaro posted above. If you are patient you may just find the deal you are looking for.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. I needed a little sanity check. I've been overseas for a while now and was a little thrown back. I am the second owner of both my current rides. I still have the sticker for my TA. Fully loaded she was a tad under $30K. I'm gonna put my thinking cap on and keep my eyes open.

I really like the idea of getting 'like new' rides for about half the sticker. Just did it. No way could I afford the $61k sticker that was my C6 'vert back in 2009. With an easy 5,000 miles on it I just bought it in December for about half that sticker. Still has 'new car smell' as the plastic was never taken off the carpets. Those type of deals are out there if you are patient. The depreciation from this point on is liveable, especially if I can keep the car a long time. My Trans Am is still with me after all these years and it had a $33k sticker back in '01. If it was worth zero right now, and it isn't, my cost of owning the car is about $2k per year. Lots of enjoyment for that kind of money.
Good luck with your car buying choice.
