Just picked up this freshly rebuilt 5.7 ‘boost build’ the guy I bought it from has no details on the build or who built it, it is ported and studded and all arp bolts. I’m building a 94 ranger prerunner so boost isn’t in the budget right now. Going to try to hunt down whoever built this as best as I can and if anyone can give me any advice or lead me any direction that would be awesome. Anyways, how much of a dangerous game would I be playing to run the motor NA?

Why would it be dangerous? LS engines are known to run great with boost with the "stock" factory build. If you don't know anything about it, why believe it is actually a "boost" build. If it is ... it is usually just forged internals and maybe a little lower compression. Don't worry about it and run it!

If you're that concerned, buy a cheap borescope and see what the pistons look like through the spark plug holes. You'll know if they're dished, flat top, etc. But yes, you can run it N/A just fine, even if it's only 9:1 compression.

Did the seller mention the block was welded to attempt a fix for a cracked block? I hope the crack didn't go through the oil passage
