Cooling system Hello everyone, I've just recently reinstalled a 5.3l in my 01 TA. Has new gaskets, rod/main bearings and rings a complete refresh basically. I've got it fired up let it get to operating temps. I check the oil and it's over filled and I check coolant and it's low. Oil doesn't look milky but for some reason it's over filled with 6 quarts of oil. And was half gallon low in coolant which is approximately the same amount the dipstick says oil is over full

Oil capacity is 5.6 quarts IIRC, so 6 quarts will put you over full. Most likely, what happened with your coolant is your system burped air out. Fill it up again and let it run for awhile with the cap off. I'm willing to bet once you do that, it will stay full. Two separate issues, I believe. And running 6 quarts won't hurt a thing.
