I have a high miles ‘00 Gen 4 z28, I had an o2 with most everything removed but had real nice dash and column I put in my car, I’m not ready to start it just yet but I know it’s not going to start until A, a key with a proper resistance chip? to match the ECM? or BCM? What needs to be done? TY
The 98-02 Camaro uses a VATS key with a built-in resistor (pellet) to prevent theft. If you need a replacement key or are troubleshooting a no-start condition, you'll need one of the following precise values:
- #1: 0.523 kΩ (523 Ω)
- #2: 0.681 kΩ (681 Ω)
- #3: 0.887 kΩ (887 Ω)
- #4: 1.130 kΩ (1,130 Ω)
- #5: 1.470 kΩ (1,470 Ω)
- #6: 1.870 kΩ (1,870 Ω)
- #7: 2.370 kΩ (2,370 Ω)
- #8: 3.010 kΩ (3,010 Ω)
- #9: 3.740 kΩ (3,740 Ω)
- #10: 4.750 kΩ (4,750 Ω)
- #11: 6.040 kΩ (6,040 Ω)
- #12: 7.500 kΩ (7,500 Ω)
- #13: 9.530 kΩ (9,530 Ω)
- #14: 11.800 kΩ (11,800 Ω)

I’m transplanting many low mileage O2 SS parts into my 00 high mileage z28 and one item of concern is the 02 steering column, both M6if it matters, my concern is there anything else needed aside from the properly chipped ket? (Original key had a #14 and now new key has a 14 chip with cut to fit newer column.. does anything else need.to be addressed? BCM?

#14 was the chip for the original column and key, today I had a new key cut for the newer nicer column, the new key now has a #14 resistor chip, do I need a different BCM, pcm?
