i assume we're talking about an ls1 here my question is how did you tear apart a motor in 80,000 miles damn dude did you have oil in it? coolant? jesus

well usually if it smokes white generally its a sign of burning antifreeze have you been losing coolant?

I doubt it, unless you are very bad with car care and car maintenence. Which should disable you from owning an LS1 in the first place.

Like 1994Z28Lt1 said, if your exhaust is white then you are burning coolant. You most likely have a blown head gasket.

Doesnt that cause it to overheat? The temp stays normal.

Not unless you lose enough coolant and sit in traffic on a really hot day for a long time or are really revving the engine.

BTW, the temp gauage after 1998 is a dummy gauge. Its setup to stay around 210*. So you can't judge by that.

seafoam it. it sounds like it needs to be cleaned out badly if it's knocking. you probably have gobs of carbon buildup on the pistons.

in case you're unfamiliar with seafoam, i wrote a sticky for it in the general maintenance & repair section. for the cost of $10, you could have a much newer-feeling motor on your hands. however, since your engine sounds very dirty, instead of letting the seafoam soak in your engine for 10-15 minutes as per my directions, you should make it half an hour to an hour.

Choco I think about 50% of your posts contain the word seafoam. You should see if they have a sales position open.

I heard of that seafoam the other day. Does it really make the car smoke like crazy?

if your engine has a lot of carbon build up in it it does; when I did mine it didn't smoke very much at all, but I have heard of people leaving huge trails of smoke as they drive down the road.

I did full seafoam treatment the other day in my Jeep (1 in gas tank, 1 in oil, then i did 3 shots of 1/3 in brake booster line.. motor has 187k miles she's dirty)

I must say I am honestly seeing a HUGE increase in gas mileage. I did 3 shots into the brake booster line and let each one sit about 5 minutes then went out and drove, and wow TONS AND TONS of white smoke came billowing out of the exhaust. The motor must have been DIRTY. Each rev of the engine would throw out about a 10' cloud of thick white smoke, driving out in the country left white trails behind me.

I'm considering doing a little bit more, just trying to get it clean. With 187k I'm getting some knocking so I'm just trying my best to keep it running in tip-top untill I can find a nice LS1. Like I said a huge increase in MPG and I think I'm seeing a little bit of performance gain, and smoother revs.

+1 more vote on seafoam being good stuff, I have used and sold this stuff for the past 6 yrs and believe in it. It usually does make quite a bit of diff in and engine with some miles on it.
