Its been 5 weeks since a bought my car from a small dealer and my states dmv has still not received the title yet. The guy keeps changing his story around about when and if he sent it. Is there anything i can do? Legally? I need some help getting this thing.

My guess is that he had a lost title on the car that you bought, and submitted an application for a new one to be generated with his state. This can take anywhere from two weeks to a month. After that, he's going to have to forward it to your lienholder/you, which could take any amount of time depending on how fast he sends it.

Find out if you're indeed dealing with a lost title. Also, some states have a law that a title MUST be provided within X amount of days AFTER purchase (WA state is 45 days, for example). After then, I believe the customer is entitled to a full refund of purchase prices and applicable fees. Look into it. Good luck.

Well the guy is a small dealer so he sold me the car before he had paid all of it off. He can legally do that in alabama. I still dont think he has the car paid off and doesnt have the title yet. Anyone know if there is any kind of law in alabama about a certain number of days? or how i can find out? thanks.
