B4C Camaro's

Do the B4C Camaro's come tuned or with any other modifications? One of my brother's friends just got one, and he put a Borla on it but thats all he's done to it so far...I ran with him just through a couple gears yesterday, and I pulled about half a car on him right away, but he hung with me better than I thought he would for a stock auto. Granted I'm almost stock, but I have a cutout and a tune.

WhiteKnightZ28 Nov 27, 2006 05:30 PM

B4C's are nothing more than de-badged Z28 without T-tops, its an urban legend that they have anything special done to them.

landstuhltaylor Nov 27, 2006 05:38 PM

and they are stripped ie no options

Lucas'02SS Nov 27, 2006 05:41 PM

Are the B4C's not retired police cars? I thought they may have done some tuning or a chip or something like that....

99camarosupersport Nov 27, 2006 05:42 PM

You're pretty much stock, and him keeping up with you shouldn't come as much of a surprise. They are nothing special, i believe they have tranny coolers so they run longer. Not sure what else, i would assume an upgraded suspension package?

bww3588 Nov 27, 2006 05:45 PM

B4C.....they were built before Christ. they are totally immortal and only the car Gods can properly judge the B4C cars, therefore none of us have any right to shed light upon the specifics of the almighty B4C Chevrolet Camaro.

Lucas'02SS Nov 27, 2006 05:56 PM

Lol. huh?

Thats called sarcasm, he's making fun of the fact that everyone and their mother seems to think B4C's are secretly super-special race cars.

And they're not. Do a search for B4C, theres like 2 million posts about this, including an on-going one here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/new-ls1-owners-newbie-tech/613429-did-cop-cars-have-lsx.html

bww3588 Nov 27, 2006 06:37 PM

yes sarcasm. good luck finding a car that was built under the supervision of Christ.

Lucas'02SS Nov 28, 2006 03:04 PM

Lol. I didn't think they were amazing god-like cars ever. I was just curious about anything different being done to them. haha...I guess I should have picked up on the sarcism there, you were laying it on pretty thick.

How much does it weigh, being that its not T-Top or stripped down other ways, maybe that helped something. When I sold mitsu's, people loved the Evo LS because it had no radio, no wing, no carpet in the trunk = no weight.

FHPB4C Nov 30, 2006 02:21 PM

My B4C weighs in at 3376 on the title

TWS Nov 30, 2006 02:32 PM

Guys, do a search. This topic keeps on coming up again and again and again. And those of us who actually own B4C's attempt to dispell the myths again and again and again.

WhiteKnight is pretty much right. PS cooler, high output Alternator, GU5 rear axle (for A4's, which were 90+% of B4C's), body color roof and mirrors.

They were NOT strippers and they did not (at least mine did not) come with a tranny cooler. All suspension parts seem to be OEM Z28 stuff, nothing special.

Mine came with an engine block heater... because it was a Colorado Hwy Patrol Interceptor and up in the mountains during the winter they would plug those bitches in overnight.

OK, I'm done fighting the ignorance that will not die.

All B4C's that were auto came with 323's. I paid $5k for mine with 116k on the clock bone stock. car runs like a top.All i had to do with rip out alot of the FBI wiring that was left

The only thing I can tell you for sure is that they were "stripped" down versions of Z28s, they were for all purposes 1LE's except only offered to government a special service or fleet vehicles and could have been equiped with larger sway bars, and were equiped with 1LE rear control arms, power stearing cooler and body colored roofs. The Z28 badges and fog lights were deleted (until 98 i presume). Everything else was optional. Both of my B4C's don't have that retched key release button in the ignition and don't have cruz control they both have tranny coolers and the 94 has an oil cooler. the 6-spd was optional as well

1993 $3,930 option w/auto and 138 produced
1994 $3,993 option w/auto and 668 produced
1995 $4,369 w/A4 and 310 made
1996 $4,905 w/A4 and 228 made
1997 $3,454 w/A4 and 253 made
1998 cost same as z28 239 made 12 were 6spds
1999 " " 184 A4s and 12 6spds
2000 " " 245 A4s and 9 6spds
2001 " " 279 A4s and 9 6spds
2002 " " 708 made.

Most departments wouldn't go for anything "special" in the way of tuning or tolerate or even want a high maintenance car. They want something that gets the job done and safely. It's a depreciating asset too. If you read some of the excellent books that are available on police cars, you'll find that departments prefer reliability and want OEM supplier parts.

Most of your "interceptor" packages even back in the 60's would only have a single 4bbl carb over the multi-carb systems that were options at that period in history because of the maintenance and budget constraints.

Hope I helped.
