Default check engine light

just curious.. i have a 97 ws6 but in general.. when you get headers and have ur check engine light go on...Do you lose a bit of hp?

And also i was talkin to a mechanic and he told me you will use more gas..is that true?

I've run 2 Mustangs and my Camaro with the check engine light after exhaust mods...and never noticed a difference.

First....get it scanned to see why the light came on. It could be unrelated. AutoZone can scan it for free. And yes it can increase fuel consumption and worsen emissions. It all depense on why the light came on and how the computer is compensating.

Yes, get the code(s) read and write them down and post'em, don't worry about the descriptions. Post cat codes won't hurt, but could be something else.

If you would like to know what the code means go to gearchatter.com and they explain what could it be.
