Unhappy stupid question

i recently took the y pipe off of my 2000 t/a, im planning on putting a diff. exhaust on it. so im running open headers. is this bad to do with a stock engine? because i noticed my air conditioning accumulator or (receiver/drier) (this is the metal cylinder thing right behind the battery and radiator cap) i noticed it was very very cold and had moisture all over it... to say the least it looked bad. is this bad? is this because the engine may be overheating or what? please help

and all this happend right after i took the exhaust off and just went to open headers

That's normal with high-humidity. You will be alright with open Hearers, I wouldn't do it for long..

I have heard that it can hurt it but my buddy bought his Z brand new in 99 and has ran a cutout on it since day 1 wide open and has had no problems what so ever and he takes his car to the track quite often so I would say it's ok.

hes talking about removing the y-pipe totally, which means no rear O2's and about 6 inches from the front ones. your chances of burning up the O2's and possibly burning valves outweighs the benefits from removing the Y-pipe.

I was referring to the post about running a cut out open all the time.

An open cutout wont hurt anything since you still have some small amount of backpressure, but open headers on a street car will result in burnt valves.

not necessiarly. if you have say 18 inch extentions off the collectors to protect the O2's, your vavles will be fine.

It has nothing to do with back-pressure or w/e...the harm in running open headers for a long time is that there's a strong possibility that reletively cool air could creep onto the red-hot exhuast heads, causing them to warp, which could lead to catastrophic damage to your engine. Running an open cutout is fine because cutouts are far enough back in the exhaust system that there isn't any chance for damage to the engine to occur.

To the OP...get the y-pipe back on before you trash your engine
