That sounds like an alternator to me. New can go bad too. It should still be under warranty. Take it back where you bought it and have them check it.

if its not the alternator check your cables expecially the power cable, they can get corrosion in them and not conduct as they should.

Check the little wire that goes in the plug for the voltage regulator, it might be broken or loose somewhere else, follow it, it goes thru up the way by the intake manifold, mine broke there and it would show a no charge condition. Finally it came also loose at the plug, some how it heated and jumped to one of the other therminals in the regulator, it would overcharged the system, gauge needle would spike up to the max, dash lights would go bright as LEDS!!!!!!!! I just stopped and replaced alternator since the regulator got damaged, I have a reman unit with a lifetime warranty now, it works good, but when I am at a stop for too long(more than a minute!) gauge would read under half the gauge, at the orange zone. It is weird why GM put 102 amp alternators in cars such as ours that have almost everything power... even LT1s had a 140 amp alternators......

Sounds like your alternator is on its way out. Mines also on its way out i think because my gauge reads a lil over 13 sometimes but then at times its down below 13 right against the red. My alternator also smells like an electrical fire sometimes. I'm for sure fixin to get me another one.

Mine has been on the car for about two months and it has read like that since I installed it. I wonder if the load of our cars demand is too much for a 102 amp alternator.

I'm not sure if the 102 amp is to small or not but i dont think a bigger one would hurt.
