LS engine paint removal without damaging aluminum??
I just picked up a low mileage LS 6.0 but the seller painted the block and heads gloss black.
What can I use on the the heads to remove paint and not tarnish the aluminum?
I want to keep the long block assembled but clean it, remove all paint from heads, mask, paint block assembly. None of the accessories are installed.
I was thinking about the Mar Hyd AL aircraft stripper but wondering if it will tarnish/stain the aluminum.
Open to suggestions.

I think you can use about anything and you won't "damage" the AL.
You will likely have to do something to improve the appearance however.
I heard Al fin cleaner works well.
I have use a stainless wire wheel on it and it shines it up nicely.

If you are going to paint it again, why not just take off the gloss with some sandpaper and paint over it?
Otherwise, a brass wirewheel should take the paint right off.

Whomever painted it before just painted it. Its flaking and peeling off.
I don't want to paint over a poor prepped paint job so off it comes.

Im almost considering stripping the block and heads and repainting them both.
I will be using a Edelbrock victor jr intake and I can paint the timing cover to match
the intake for contrast....We will see....
How it is now

Yeah, can't paint over a poor paint job. I just thought you wanted a different color.
Honestly, I'd hit it with a brass wire wheel to take the paint off. Use a rag and lacquer thinner for the stubborn areas.
