Default Does anyone know?

How much using the A/C NOT on full blast effects the gas mileage? Kinda a hard question but if anyone knows the answer please let me know.

Pretty much not at all. Once you turn on the a/c, the compressor comes on and thats what sucks the mileage out of your car. The parasitic loss from the compressor is HUGE. The speed of the fan only changes how many amps it draws from the electrical system. The alt. might have to work harder, but i dont see it translating into noticeable mpg difference. If its gonna be on, you might as well crank it.

It isn't that noticeable. I owned a '96 Formula for years in hot FL and the a/c just wasn't a mpg issue. I see you are in hot TX so crank it on and don't worry about it.

Why don't you REMOVE the compresser? This will require a shorter belt. While you're doing that also remove the water pump and install an electric unit. You will have removed tons of extra weight. You'll also have more HP. This normally yields beter ET's.

But you asked about MPG. That will be better too.

Yes as Redbird stated the compressor is on there is no other change with the A/C controls besides where the air is directed. When you turn it on MAX A/C that just closes off the damper to bring in fresh outside air, basically it just recirculates air inside the cabin.

Removing the compressor will eliminate the compressor belt.

I just put the AC back on my car. I got 18 mpg for two weeks without it, I can see the gauge moving quicker with it, but it's only been on for 1/2 tank now so I don't have any numbers.

My SS sucks for mileage, but I always drive with the AC on. It's an M6 with headers so I can't compare my two cars very well.
