Default A4 or M6

I have a98 z with and A4 was thinking about going to a M6. Is this hard to do and will it be worth doing, I think you may have to cut the floor. I ask because I am haveing trouble with my A4.

It's not that difficult of a swap, I just did it this past winter on my '98. Yes you have to cut a hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter and a hole in the firewall for the clutch master cylinder. Go to the manual trans section of this forum and there's a giant sticky at the top of the page with every single bit of information you need to complete the swap. Whether or not it's "worth it" is going to be up to you, but it sure was for me......manual>auto any day of the week to me.

I've had two ls1 Trans Ams. One a4 and one m6. I would take the m6 car over the a4 any day of the week.

If you want to, its alot of work though, and you have to think about your goals with the car.

true, i have an m6 and i love it for a street car. but if your building a more drag specific car, i'd upgrade to a stronger auto over an m6.

I just did the swap and to me it was well worth it. I had a vig 3600 in the car for a little while but for me the M6 is alot funner to drive. I only make it to the track about once or twice a year so that wasnt enough to justify having a stalled auto for me.

I think I will go with a good strong auto. My goals are to take it to the track in the near future as much as I can. Thanks guys.

I would sell your current car and buy an LS1 car in M6 from the factory. This will save you much trouble and money in the long run. Also will give you a chance to start a whole new project. You can remove your current mods and return your car to factory and swap them over to the new M6 car. So you will not be losing anything.

Try a search on this topic. It's been beat to death, and you'll find all the answers you need.

PS. A4 is by far the superior trans.
