Default headers or gears and underdrive?????

I've got an 02 formula A4 with 2.73 gears, lid, magnaflow cb, 3000 stall, and a hypertech tuner.

My question is what would you do and why.

I'm looking at either getting longtubes and ory OR underdrive pulley and 3.42 or 3.73 gears.

This is my daily driver so i dont want to do anything to extreme on the gears, but if you have had experience with 3.73's in an auto then let me know what you think especially if you have had both 3.42 and 3.73.

3.73's... they will wake your car up more than headers, plus you already have a stall. and if you did gears... 3.42 would be a waste.

Probably the gears.....but hell if the headers aren't a good choice. They will really wake the car, and sound badass.

Gears would be the **** though

I have had both gears and like the 3.42 better. I do somewhat of highway comute and also 3.42 are a little easier to launch from a stop.I would do headers since you already have a stall. I would wait till the 10 bolt goes bye-bye and get a 10 bolt again with gears or if you have money buy a 12 bolt with lower gears.

I guess I'll go with 3.42's if I go that route.

I would do the pulley and 3.73s, headers will help but gears will really wake the car up.

unless you do a ton of highway driving, you'll regret getting 3.42 instead of 3.73's

gears wake up an A4 like no other. and if you're not looking for massive amounts of power, i'm sure that 10 bolt will be ok. but if you have big future plans i would just put the headers on and wait to grenade the rear. o and 3.73 IMO

3.73's ... as long as the gears are set up right that 10 bolt will hold up for a while

I would do gears, I think gears will give you more of a SOTP gain than headers.

Now what kind of stall do you have, and how do you like it? How's it work with the 2.73's?

I have those gears, and am really wanting to do a stall lately. I have to do SOMETHING to wake it up. I go back and forth between wanting to do the stall or 3.42's.

Everybody is different but I drive to the beach weekly (75 miles each way) with 3.23's at mostly 70mph speed limits and 342's would be as tall as I wanna go. It's all up to what you want. To me my 3.23 is a good comprimise.

Well, call me crazy but leave the 2.73's in and get the LT's.
3.73 gears will take maybe a tenth off of your 1/4, as you already have a stall.
The LT's will probably get you 2 tenth's off of your 1/4, maybe a hair more.
If you lived in a city where you had a lot of hill's, I would agree with everyone else and say gears, but since you don't.........

I hear you.... I drive my car 60 miles round trip to work everday, mostly highway. No way would I go 3.73, I'm thinking 3.23 or 3.42 max. I'm hoping to find a used rear with one of those ratios to swap in actually.

I guess for my application i would want the 3.42's then since i do some travling in this car. My other consern is that headers may help my milage and gears will hurt it. Not the I am complaining about milage really cause I would rather go fast and get 16 mpg than be in a turd getting 35 mpg.

HEADERS!

I went 12.7 @ 109mph with only pacesetter headers/dynomax bullet and slp lid...didn't gain much from the gears.

Also, I noticed you said headers or gears/UD pulley.

I think the headers/UD pulley would cost less than gears/UD pulley.

i would do the gears with a friend at his shop so it would be about $300 for parts and the underdrive is about 200 from ws6store.com so each thing works out to be about 500

Your gonna need a tune to run those gears, either a handheld or a dyno.
