Need an abnormal sound diagnosed....
Need an abnormal sound diagnosed.... Just had a brand new LS1 installed, upgraded Cam, oil pump, arp bolts and had heads mill'd. Added LCAs, strano suspension and FIPK. I already had 3" long tubes, ORY, over axle and super 44 flowmaster. etc.....
I didnt hear the noise until 2 or 3 days of drivn it after the engine install. It sounds like one of those big monster truck toys that you hold in your hand and push in place as many times as you want as fast as you want and then it takes off when you let it go and it rolls until it loses momentum. ( hope thats a good enough example).
It increases RPM with the engines RPM and gets louder as RPMs increase. it sounds like its coming from the top of the dash towards the windshield and is pretty quiet until around 3000 RPM when its loud enough to hear over the motor. I've turned off the A/C and thats not it. It does it while the car is in motion, stopped, in gear or in neutral. Thanks for any help.

it's most likely in the accessory belt system- water pump, idler pulley, alternator, ac, air pump, etc. The noise that comes to mind is power steering pump, when they're old or if their ford the power steering pump whines and gives that kinda toy truck noise, and can be quite loud. and check all the fluids of course, also when stopped turn your steering wheel side to side to load the power steering pump to see if it's that.
PS Pump is new and has always made the whine you speak of but the sound Im refering to is a little deeper in tone and is much fuller...... has a distinct sound that you can hear the RPMs of what it is....... almost the faintest tick but not internal sounding.......not exhaust or spark plug sounding either.....I was hoping it was a familiar problem but sounds are hard to explain without hearing them.......any more inputs before i tear something up.....thanks

Get a video of the engine running so we can hear more or less what youre hearing.
Ill see what i can get about a clip but not sure if the sound would be to distorted with everything else going.........another good example I thought of is a heavy larger electric motor with lots of gears being rotated manually as opposed to it rotating normally with electrical current.......It almost sounds like it could be in the tranny area but the sounds coming up from the dash area but not in the dash.......it does it regardless of the configuration of the drive train though.........
