Default Dumb question

I have a squeak when the car is running. I believe it is coming from the bottom passenger side idler pully. What is the thing that the second small belt is running? Can I just take the belt off? It is a 99 Camaro SS M6.

It's your A/C compressor.

I have the same squeak, and my compressor also needs a recharge. Do you think there is something in common, will the squeak go away with a recharge? I know the stuff has oil in it to help lubricate inside the compressor.

I'd check out the belt to make sure it doesnt have a bunch of cracks on the ribbed side of the belt. Then check out the idler/tensioner pulley. That bearing can become worn out, especially on older cars or high mileage ones. Take the belt off and see if it goes away?

Yeah, take the main serpentine belt off, then take the compressor belt off. Use a ratchet to attach to the tensioner pulley below and that will release the tension so you can easily take the belt off the compressor wheel.
