Default Starter Bolt

The last time I took the starter off of my car one of the bolts brought all of the threads out of the block with it. So I drilled the hole out and tapped it with a larger bolt that I had laying around. But yesterday my starter finally crapped out, and now I am scared that the same thing is going to happen again when I try to remove the larger bolt that I had to use last time.

Should I just keep going bigger or should I try to get a helicoil in there? What do you guys think would be the best course of action for me now?

Ive also considered using this as an excuse to pull the motor and go through the whole thing and just have the machine shop fix the hole . And then do my cam swap ive had in the works since last summer.

Also anyone want to sell me a starter cheap?

Just take it out very carefully. I doubt it will rip the threads out again.

But if it does, put a time sert in it (pretty much a helicoil but much stronger and made of steel).

Did you put anti seize on the new bolt when you put it in? That is a must with a steel screw going into aluminum threads.

Yeah, but I would of assumed that there would have been antiseize from the factory and those threads ripped out.

Not likely. Not using anti seize on anything saves GM about 25 cents per car. And failing to use it won't get them sued.
