Harsh Vibration Hey everyone. Ok, I had this problem for a while now and it's getting annoying. Here is the deal, I'm driving and when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, there is a loud/strong vibration for a second or 2 and then it stops. This happens when either I'm going slightly uphill or when turning. It's not all the time though. And, if I accelerate faster, it won't do it. If driving slow, it wont do it. When driving average, then it will do it. It sounds like something is shaking.
It also does this if I'm on a incline, like a small hill, and i accelerate from a stop. But only sometimes.
It sounds like it's coming from the tranny area. I changed the tranny mount with a Poly one but that didn't change anything.
Mechanic could not figure out the problem either. Has any one else had a similiar problem? Thanks.

I have a Poly trans mount too and they are infamous for vibration, but the way you described it makes it sound like its something much worse. Hm, I had a mechanic tell me a story about an 85 Monte Carlo he had the same issue with, turns out the driveshaft was unbalanced. Try checking the driveshaft, pitch of the rear, U-joints, etc. If that leads you nowhere, then you may want to get the trans checked.

The trans was checked by a local trans shop. Everything checked out fine. There is just a slight bit of play when i try moving the driveshaft. You have to move it hard and it makes a tap sound. How would I check the pitch of the rear?
