squeaking breaks - HELP!!
I know there is a brake section but i haven't got any responses yet. Anyway, i have a 2000 trans am ws6. has 53k on it. i bought it about a year ago and not long after i bought it the brakes started squeaking all the time. had a few places look at it and said maybe just need new pads, so i tried that, didn't work. I just had a new place look at it and said it's the rear rotors and they need replaced. SO i got brand new rear rotors ..brand new pads for the rear rotors andd front, and the brakes STILLL squeak. i've only had the new rotors on 2 days. DO the new rotors just need time to set in? My brakes squeak BADLY around 80% of the time. PLZ help!

Check your bearings. I had a bad pair of bearings on my front that went out. They were original to the car and only lasted 70K miles. (I changed my brakes and still had the squeaking - then I checked the bearings.) The bearing squealing only happened when the brakes were applied.
To check, you can lift one wheel at a time, put your hands at 3 and 9 o'clock and then wiggle the wheel. If you get any play, the bearings are bad. Or, if you don't get any play - you can take the brake caliper and rotor off the wheel and then turn the bearing/hub by hand. If it feels like a meat grinder or makes a grinding noise, they are shot.
