got some oil consumption problems
GOT SOME PROBLEMs Okay guys here it is... i made a post 2 weeks ago saying i was down a quart of oil after say 1800-2000 miles. i added the quart of oil, and then went to etown maybe put 300-400 more miles on the car, went to check the oil again... almost another quart low, the car was driven hard throught the 400 miles but still thats alot of oil within only 400 miles. I am freinds with a guy who works at a pontiac dealership.. im having him loook in the computer to see if my warranty is still good and he is gunna get back to me, btw its a 2001 with 29,009 miles... if my warranty is expired waht shoud i do????? p.s. i dont think i have a leak but i am gunna double check this weekend

Re: GOT SOME PROBLEMs You might have the EGR oil consumption problem common with LS1's, though I thought it was fixed by '01. Anyone else think it could be the reason?
btw, if you do have it, there's info on this site about how to fix it. (I have the prob on my 99)
fwiw, in mine, compression braking really seems to worsen the consumption.

Re: GOT SOME PROBLEMs No such thing as an EGR oil consumption problem.
The problem is with the PCV system. Either it is sucking oil back into your intake, or you are getting oil ring blow-by at WOT.
To help the oil going into intake problem, you can try the LS6 valley cover so the air is pulled from the valley, not the valve covers. Most add a catch-can with the LS6 valley cover.
Helping blow-by is harder to fix (you will see smoke at WOT). The cause is from low-tension oil rings put on from the factory. You need neg pressure in the crankcase to prevent blow-by, but at WOT there is none... Some kind of crankcase evac system is needed. I'm working on one right now...

Re: GOT SOME PROBLEMs agreed, i have an 01 Z with 28k and some change on it. I usually take it pretty easy on it and before i change the oil (every 3k) the low oil likght comes on. id say i burn about a quart every 1000 miles. although this is somewhat normal, i dont tel my uneducated friends cause they just think its a piece of crap. oh well, they can think whatever they want when they see that little black Z getting smaller and smaller. haha.

Re: GOT SOME PROBLEMs Thanks alot guys, i must admit i do like to get on the car very often.. i just changed the oil today and added some lucas oil heavy duty oil stabilizer.. im gunna try to take it easy and see if the car still burns it... if not ill know that it only burns it when i am beating on it... p.s. there is no leaks but im gunna keep on eye on it. i may also to the pcv mod. do you guys think i should? also i never had the low oil light come on
