Take the tension off of the belt. Get the car in the air remove the 2 bolts that hold the alternator to the bracket, and remove the one bolt on the back of the alt holding it to the other bracket. Pull it down and forward and slide it out between the front sway bar and the rad fan assembly. Depending on the situation it could be easier to remove the alt bracket with it, its only 1 more bolt, located between the idler and the alt.

Just did this last week. First disconnect the negative battery cable, loosen the serpentine belt and jack the car up (Use manual jack stands to hold the car up, NEVER rely solely on a hydraulic jack),go under and there should be 2 15mm bolts in front and transmission cooling line clips in the way. There should be 1 13mm bolt in the back. Finally take the boot off and and unscrew the next bolt in the back which should be another 13mm. Getting the alternator out will require some maneuvering back and forth until you are able to find the right positon to slide it out. Unclip the alternator plug, and that was it for me. Install is the reverse process. It is best to have an assortment of tools for removal/installation.

If you are having problems finding an alternator, I read in Car Craft that some alternators off the 5.3L or other gm truck motors were identical.( Check to make sure which ones.) Well hope this helps you.

Dont forget that one wire connector that comes from the top....its real easy to forget it while you are under the car and you will pull the wire right out of the plug real easy....ask me know I know...
