the plug wires are all the same length, and the only really "easy" way to change out the plugs would be in the motor was out of the car. be prepared for some scraped up hands, take your time and if you get frustrated step back and take a break for a minute. patience is your friend on this one bro

Take the coil pack rails off and use a 3" extension and ratchet should be all you need along with anti seize for the spark plug threads and some dielectric grease for the wire boots. if its you first time just take your time and dont get frustrated number 8 isnt that bad...sometimes i use the plug socket and extension to find the plug before snaping the ratchet into place. After you do it once its a 20 min job.. good luck.....oh and a beer or to always helps with just about anything.

some times you can get to the back one's easier being underneath the car and coming up also, but it is a pain in the *** wrench throwing is alrite (JUST NOT AT THE CAR PLEASE) and if you havn't got spark plugs i would definately recommend NGK Iridium dont remember the part number but get the ones with a .60 gap have fun though i dread it everytime i do it

be sure to take off the coil pack rails! makes it a hundred times easier! the rear passenger side plug is a pain in the butt and much easier from under the car. you don't have to do these one at a time, because it is impossible to get the wires crossed. also, all the wires are the same length and can go on any cylinder. also, put a SMALL amount of dielectric grease or silicon spray around the inside of the plug boot to help it slide on easier. i take out all my plugs every weekend to check the gap and condition, so i have some experience in this department. lol

p.s. it is normal to yell, scream, cus, and throw tools during a spark plug change on a camaro/trans am, so try to be far away from friends, family, and small children during this process. lol

good luck

They don't go in a certain direction, they just come straight off or straight on. But you can trun them either way and they will just spin.

Just pull it straight off. Sometimes there's so little room in there you can't get a firm enough grip with your fingers on the boot to pull it off. Its just part of this shitty design for an engine compartment. Sometimes you just have to pull it at the wire, but it could break and you'll have to buy a new wire set for $36.00. If the clip stays on the spark plug, you can still get the socket on it to get it out, just in case your's does brwak while trying to yank that sumbitch off.

I don't know. I was doing my gaps for my 427ci for the past 7 years at .045. I changed my plugs a couple months ago and I tried them at .052.

Absolutely, 100%...zero change in the way the engine performs throughout the rpm range.

Gaps don't matter until you start getting into big horsepower, nitrous or forced indusction.

But I think GM changed the original gaps for stock engines from .060 to .055.

So I went somewhere inbetween and went with .052. Same ****, its all the same.

It simply doesn't matter at all with our cars.

But I thought .060 was the original recommendation from GM for the LS1.

Where did you read .040?

.060 was the original spec for our cars(platinum)

if you are going to change your stockers they are now iridium which calls for a .040 spec. ill look for the bulletin #

Information on New Spark Plugs and Gapping

. . .

Attention: Please disregard the Set Gap Per Vehicle Specification statement on the side of an ACOelco(R) Iridium Spark Plug Box. The statement will be removed from the boxes in the future.

Try a 3-4" piece of rubber hose over the end of the spark plug when installing new plugs. Makes for a handy temporary extension...

I also use a Craftsman spark plug socket without the rachet on # 8. The socket has a 3/4" head you can get a wrench on to make small little turns to aid in final tightening of that hard to reach bastard...

Thats spark plug stuff.

.040 is too small for an LS1, any LS1.

.050 - .055 is best
