Default Blown Head Gasket! Need Help!!!

Hey guys I have a 98 Firebird v6 with about 180k and it has been overheating lately so i replaced the thermostat but nothing. My coolant has been needing filling a lot lately and when I tried to refill the radiator I noticed some bubbling with the cap off. When I went to start the car back up white smoke came out but none after that. After doing some research I'm pretty sure its the head gasket. Im not in the best position financially to go get a new car since my car is paid for and I love my car. Defiantly sucks if its the head gasket because I just put over $2000 into with wheels, tires, seats, exhaust and some suspension parts. Any advice guys!? If it is the gasket I cant see paying all the money with that high of a mileage. Should I just part the car out then? Thanks

You must be able to get someone in a local car club that'll do it for you. Its an easy job if you know what you're doing. Maybe charge you $200-$300 in labor.

^ Totaly agree. . . . . It is a very simple job, specially since it is a six cylinder.

You just need the tools, space and time to do it. It really would not cost a lot of money.

I'd offer to do it for ya for $300+ parts, but I'm up near chi-town, and I wouldn't drive that further than I could throw it with what you're describing.

I feel for you. I know the feeling of putting money in your car only to have something break and then you have to figure out whether you want to keep it or sell it after its fixed. What I would do is probably get a 3.8 with like 60k on it for slightly less than a grand and toss it in so you will not have to put head gaskets on a motor that already has 180k on it. Good luck, you got a nice looking car I would just fix it those 3.8s run like hell (I should know, my beater has one!) whether you replace the whole engine or just the head gasket.

are you getting a lot of white smoke in your exhaust? does you oil and coolant look normal?

the need to refill coolant could be a faulty heater core or a hose with a pin hole leak
