Thats not horrible, but still a little much for 40,000 miles. Try 40 weight oil or even 50. It should definitely decrease unless you have a ring(s) issue. Catch Can will also help a tiny bit, but not much.

Specs say this is OK if you are under 58K miles. Guidance is 1 qt over 2K miles. Here's the latest TSB from the General: http://www.pistonslap.com/tsb/010601011A.pdf

Considering how thin the Mobil 1 is that you are using, I'd say only losing 1qt is actually good. Try a thicker 30 weight oil or even a 40 and I bet your consumption gets cut in half. My car seems to like Castrol Syntec 5W-40 the best.

M1 does lose a little more volitiles than some other oils, but as a 30w it's about midpack. Not really thin for a 30w. You could try just about any other 30w and see if consumption goes down. 1/2 qt per 3k miles seems normal-ish for most oils/most cars.

Check your PVC lately?

I wouldn't worry either. With 40K miles it's not like your buying oil every week.

If you're making plenty of oil pressure 10PSI per 1K RPM leave it alone.
