Default Skip shift and security light either one

I have an 02 Camaro Z28 ls1 6speed, Im going to start off with i have 75k miles and original clutch, i know it will need to be replaced soon but since the day i got it skip shift has not worked smoothly once, is this just a faulty thing they put in the car? am i dumb and it should work fine? is there something wrong with it? any problems that commonly happen? not a big deal but a pain in the *** cuz i have to usually cruise off the line of an intersection and sit in neutral for a few seconds til i give up on third and go for second. Another problem i have that i was pretty curious about was that my security light is on. It is on whenever the car is, i first noticed it while i was driving when i think it first popped up. My car alarm still works great, its just as annoying as ever, my car has not had a single problem starting or staying on and the light has been on for a month or two now? an answer to either problem would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The skip shift option was installed at the factory or dealer as a way to increase mileage or save gas. It is supposed to sense how you are driving based on rpms at the point you shift. If you launch fast enough it does nothing. If slow(normal city traffic) starts then when you aim for second gear it will skip you over to 4th giving you the feeling that you either forgot how to drive a manual transmission or somebody traded engines with you in your sleep and you now have a 6 cylinder ford under the hood. They make skip shift delete kits that are supposedly relatively easy to install yourself. I intend to check into it next time I have any other work to be done.

The CAGS (Skip shift eliminator) was the first thing I installed on my car from the factory. That took me all of 90 seconds to do.

If you get a CAGS eliminator and replace the stock shifter with a good one (I have a Hurst Billet Plus, which is great.) you will have a much happier time.

Not sure what your actual question is, but the CAGS can be deleted VERY easily & quickly. I bought mine from SLP, and like wssix99 said, it took all of 120 second to hook it up. It took me a little longer because I'm dumber.

Yes,hardest part is getting under the car!
CAGS is Computer Aided Gear Shifting. It was NOT an option or dealer installed. All manuals came that way from the factory to avoid gas guzzler taxes.Once you defeat it,you will be much happier.Do a search on here and you can defeat it with a simple resistor.Good Luck!

75k is not much for a stock clutch, it will last another 50+k miles unless the car was beat on

I could help you troubleshoot it,but you would have to know how to use an ohmeter.Basically the resistance of the key goes through the lock cylinder, some wiring and ends up at the Body Control Module(BCM).You need to know if it is making it's way there within 5 ohms of the resistance of the key,and a meter will do that.Do you have that knowledge?

Well you check ohms of key.
Then put key in ignition and check ohms at plug at bottom of steering column that comes from ignition(two white wires with orange plastic covering. You should have it here + or - 5 ohms.
Then check where those wires end up-at the BCM.Unplug multi plug and look for one purple/white wire connected to terminal C2 and the other is white/black at D7- check across those for the resistance we ar looking for.

Now those wire colors and terminal numbers came from my '99 service manual but I believe they will be the same on yours .

Let me know what you find out-Good Luck!

No, the bottom panel above your knees -to get to the ignition plug. Here is a pic of the plug:

Undo the plug, put key in and see if you have the same resistance at that black plug as at the key itself.Get it? If you do, then plug plug back in and check at the BCM where those two white wires end up.
