Default Low oil Light?

Hey guys and gals have a little problem sunday as i was driving my security light came on lasted a few minutes then it turned off, then my low oil light comes on and hasnt turned off, that same day me and my friends checked out the oil and everything is perfect and today at lunch i check it again and everything is good the oil has only 500 miles on it so now im thinking maybe its the oil sensor could i be right or can it be something else?

Both. You can be right AND it can be something else. I'd start with replacing the oil level sensor on the oil pan, and see if that makes your light go off.

Also, this is the ADVANCED ENGINEERING section. You need to post this kind of stuff in either Newbie Tech or General Maintenance from now on.

EDIT- I made an assumption that you've already verified the correct amount of oil is in the engine.

If you only put 5.5 quarts in try throwing a 1/2 qt in there. I run 6 anyway because I take some long duration, high g turns in the mountains and LS1's are known for starvation. Oil is cheap and easy so I'd try that first.

Did you do the oil change? I took mine to a place and they actually only put 5 in once and the light came on as I was going down the hill after leaving. I was kinda pissed and it verified my theory if you want it done right do it yourself.

look under your car and make sure your wiring from the sensor is still in the plug, I bought my car with the same light on, and after a few minutes realized that the only problem was the wires had been pulled out. it cost me 33 bucks at the dealer for the plug. I also know that you can get it cheaper than that, I just wanted it off then.
