Just went in for smog test, car is all stock except for 224 cam, 114lsa, just recently rebuilt less than 50 miles on it. Here is the readings:
HC(PPM)
15mph MAX = 54 Meas=835
25mph MAX = 37 Meas=848
CO(%)
15mph MAX= .51 Meas=6.51
25mph MAX= 5.34 Meas=5.34

NO(PPM)
passed Max was 420, mine was 220

what the hell is going on here?

 

HC-Hydrocarbon is typically unburnt fuels. Did you get the car tuned? Are your plugs, wires and coils OK?

CO-Carbon Monoxide is what is removed by a catalytic converter. The CO passes over Alluminum Oxide that when heated releases an extra Oxygen molecule to change the CO to CO2-Carbon Dioxide. Do you have cats? Are they bad?

A lot of times a bad cat that is not clogged will glow red with heat when you drive around. Next time you park hop right out and smell for a burning/ hot smell and look at the cats.

We just fixed this on my dad's show truck and it improved both his CO and HC readings.
