If you just unbolt the brackets on each side (2 bolts each side)....will the sway bar just drop down nice and easy as you take those bolts out? Or is there a ton of pressure on that thing while it has weight on the wheels?

Does it need to be on jack stands with the wheels off the ground to be abel to unbolt those safely?

The compressor is cake to get off.

When the car is running can you hear the compressor clutch clicking? It should click on and off, usually about on for 10 seconds and off for 20 seconds or so. You can aso check it with gauges, if the gauges stay the same and dont move at all with teh a/c on it means the compressor clutch is not cycling. As was said before though if the motor bogs it got resistance.

How long were the lines open?

car is way too loud to hear anytihng click. cam, LTs, and true duals. the a/c system was off of the car for a total of about a month. suring this time, i dont think it rained once, ad ther was a severe drought.....so it was probably the "best" time to have a/c stuff laying around with open lines since hardly no moisture was in the air.

alright, ill update this thread. i replaced the compressor, filled the system up with freon, and bam, ive got ice cold air! i did not replace the dryer or orifice tube (orifice tube was new last week). so today i am driving the z on a little trip, and about an hour into the trip i notice the air isnt blowing out hard anymore. its still cold air, but i have it cranked up full blast and its barely comming out of the vents. 30 minutes later, the air is hardly comming out at all, and my check gauges light flashes and my coolant temp is in the red. i pull over, pop the hood, and find that my a/c dryer, as well as the lines comming to and from it and covered in a quarter inch thick layer of ice.

WTF? i let the car cool down and drive it on leaving the air off, and the engine stayed cool. any ideas here? my car has never ran hot, and the a/c has never done this so the two have to be realted.

it's never a best time for a/c lines to be open without being plugged ...you are in SC ..? I know there's all kinds of small creepycrawlies that would love to move into small dark cool a/c lines, accumulator/dryer, evaporator, etc.

I'm leaning towards a clog in your a/c system ..and when you had your lines/system apart before assembly you should use a pressurized cleaner [back in the day used brake cleaner followed by compressed air then upon reassembly with new pieces..orifice tube, 1 reworked line, compressor, and accumulator/dryer on an '86 Monte SS making sure it held vacuum then oil (might have been during reassembly) and r134 ..still blowing cold 3 yrs later when sold] to be sure your system's internals are clear and clean. Your condenser was probably near as hot as portions of your exhaust.

The new compressor may have over come the blockage for a little bit. It still sounds like a blockage.

The wierd thing here is: The engine is running hot from an issue with the A/C system. I don't know of anything that can cause your engine to run hot except fans or something blocking the front of the condensor. And the fans don't come on while cruising on the highway.

Is something up there blocking the condensor, like a piece of newspaper or something?

You need to see if your condensor is getting "really really" hot while the a/c is "on". I mean hot where you cannot touch the a/c line that attaches in front of the radiator cap to the top corner of the condensor. If its too hot to touch and keep your fingers on that line....you probably have a blockage where the compressed gases exit the condensor. The compressor is cramming it in there but its not getting out.

If that condensor gets "really really" hot, then I can see the engine start to run hot because that HOT air is now going right through the radiator, then the losing battle begins for the cooling system.

Go for a drive with the A/C on and see how hot that condensor line is getting.

Make sure you stop the car and check if the condensor and/or that small a/c line by the radiator cap is hot...as soon as it stops blowing cold, pull over if you have to. Don't wait, cause it'll cool down pretty fast if your moving.
