Default Interior Sail panel

I pulled off the sail panel to lay some sound deadener and there is a white block of foam. It was attached to the metal right above the seat. Does this foam serve a purpose or should I just get rid of it.

Mods, I am not sure where this should be so if you think there is a better place for it please move it.

Not sure, but I'd change the title to 'headliner' or 'interior roof panel' or people will think it's another roof bubbling thread.

the only purpose it does serve is so the panel does not get pushed in and crack. you could remove it but it weighs almost nothing.
