car wont start
ok on my way home from napa yesterday my car stopped running on my. i noticed it when i was doing about 50mph i tried to give it gas and it just kept on decelerating. i pulled over to the side of the road. and my car would only start sometimes when i tried to start it. when it did start it was only for about 7 seconds then it would die and be miss firing very badly. got it towed home.
i replaced my fuel pump and fuel filter not that long ago dont think thats the problem and the plugs and wires are about a year and a half old.
also ive had what songs like a small exhaust lead from the header gasket for a while now, dont know if that helps tho.
1996 3.8 bird. intake and exhaust no other real mods to engine performance.
what do you guys think my problem is?

I would check to see if the fuel pump is good and keeping pressure. That is what it sounds like, if it's starting then the battery and alternator should be good. If it was the alternator, there is a good chance your battery would be dead. The '96 3.8s has coilpack(s) right?

yes the 96 3.8's do have coil packs. i tinkered with it some today kinda leaning towards fuel pump. good thing i already have the trap door in from my previous one if it is indeed the pump. and if its not the pump, my next guess would be the coil packs

hah i know there is gas in it i put a half tank in before i left that morning and i only went about 25 miles lol but thats the reason we think its the pump because its starving the engine of fuel
